Account for the full system in your clearance. Total fall distance includes lanyard length, energy absorber deployment, harness stretch, and worker height below the D-ring. The anchorage must withstand 5,000 lbs or maintain a 2:1 safety factor. Never work with the harness D-ring above the anchor unless the application specifically permits it.

Use Overview

Use must follow the Guardian lanyard instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect first. Check webbing, stitching, energy absorber, and hooks before every use.
  2. Connect the absorber end. Attach the energy absorbing end to the dorsal D-ring of the full body harness.
  3. Connect the anchor end. Attach the free end to a compliant anchorage connector rated 5,000 lbs or engineered with a 2:1 safety factor.
  4. Verify the gates. Confirm every hook gate is fully closed and locked, with no side loading.
  5. Check clearance. Verify fall clearance below the work surface including free fall, deployment, and harness stretch.
  6. Limit free fall. Position the anchor to keep free fall at 6 ft or less and minimize swing fall hazards.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before every use, and have a competent person perform a documented inspection at least every six months under ANSI Z359.2 practice. Remove the lanyard from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Webbing: cuts, fraying, abrasion, burns, chemical damage, or UV fading.
  • Stitching: broken, pulled, or abraded threads.
  • Energy absorber: any deployment, torn cover, or elongation.
  • Hooks: cracks, corrosion, deformation, or gates that do not close and lock automatically.
  • Labels: missing or illegible.

Retirement triggers: any fall arrest event, any absorber deployment, or any condition where the inspector cannot positively verify the lanyard is fit for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What hooks does the Tiger Tail carry?
A mixed set per the manual: large-throat rebar hook for direct structure connection and snap hook hardware for D-rings and anchor connectors, covering jobs whose tie-off points alternate.
How does the stretch length work?
Elastic construction contracts each leg to about 4.5 ft at rest and extends to 6 ft under reach; clearance math always uses the extended 6 ft plus absorber deployment.
Is the Tiger Tail rated for foot-level tie-off?
No. It is a standard free fall lanyard with a 6 ft limit; foot-level anchorage belongs to the Big Boss extended free fall lanyard or a Class 2 SRL.
Which standards does this product meet?
It is compliant with ANSI Z359.13-13, ANSI A10.32-12, OSHA 1926 Subpart M, OSHA 1910 when used within a complete, competent-person verified fall protection system, and Guardian products are tested in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
What is the rated capacity?
The rated worker capacity is 130-310 lbs., including all clothing, tools, and equipment carried by the worker.
When should this product be retired?
Retire it after any fall event, any failed inspection item, or whenever an inspector cannot positively verify it is fit for service. The inspection criteria in the linked documentation define the pass-fail conditions.
Is documentation available for submittal packages?
Yes. The manufacturer documentation linked on this page covers installation, specifications, and compliance, and every file is hosted on our site for direct download into your submittal package.
