A hard hat protects only when it is worn correctly and undamaged. Keep the suspension installed and properly adjusted, never carry items between the shell and suspension, and never drill, paint, or modify the shell. Replace any hard hat that has taken an impact, shows cracks or chalking, or has reached the manufacturer's service life, and follow the user manual for storage away from heat and sunlight.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z89.1 Type 1

American National Standard for industrial head protection; Type 1 helmets reduce force from top impact.

Fit and Wear Overview

Set up and wear per the Malta Dynamics assembly instructions. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the shell and suspension for cracks, chalking, or damage before each use.
  2. Install the suspension. Seat all four suspension points fully into the shell per the instructions.
  3. Set the height. Adjust the front and rear vertical height so the hat sits level and clears the head.
  4. Dial the fit. Turn the ratchet to snug the headband for a secure, comfortable fit.
  5. Wear correctly. Wear the hard hat brim-forward unless the suspension is reversible and rated for reverse wear.
  6. Store properly. Keep the hard hat out of direct sunlight and away from heat between uses.

Inspection and Replacement

Inspect the hard hat before each use and remove it from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Shell: cracks, dents, gouges, chalking, or a dull, brittle surface.
  • Suspension: frayed straps, broken keys, a worn ratchet, or any loose attachment point.
  • Impact: any hard hat that has taken a blow or dropped a heavy object, even with no visible damage.
  • Chemical or heat exposure that has stiffened, faded, or warped the shell.
  • Service life: replace per the manufacturer's stated shell and suspension service life.

Replace the suspension and shell on the schedule in the manual, and retire any hard hat after an impact or when it reaches the end of its service life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ANSI type and class is the Malta Dynamics cap style hard hat?
It is an ANSI Z89.1 Type 1 hard hat rated for top impact, and it is rated both Class E and Class G. The Class E rating provides electrical insulation tested up to 20,000 volts, while the Class G rating covers general-service jobsite work. It is also compliant with OSHA 1910 and OSHA 1926.
What colors does this hard hat come in?
The cap style is available in five colors: blue, orange, red, white, and yellow. Select your color from the option menu. The colors are commonly used to distinguish trades, crew leads, or site visitors at a glance.
What does the 4-point ratchet suspension do?
The 4-point suspension anchors the headband to the shell at four points and absorbs impact energy. The ratchet lets you dial the headband to a secure, custom fit without removing the hat, and front and rear vertical height adjustment sets how high the hat rides. Cushion pillows and a nape cushion add comfort for extended wear.
What is the difference between Class E and Class G?
Both are electrical classes under ANSI Z89.1. Class G (general) is tested to 2,200 volts and is for general service. Class E (electrical) is tested to 20,000 volts for higher-voltage exposure. This hard hat carries both ratings, so it suits electrical, utility, and general construction work.
What is the shell made of and how much does it weigh?
The shell is a rugged, lightweight polyethylene cap style shell, and each hard hat weighs about 0.7 lb. The lightweight design helps reduce neck fatigue over a long shift while still meeting the Type 1 top-impact requirement.
When should I replace a hard hat?
Retire and replace any hard hat that has taken an impact, shows cracks, dents, gouges, or chalking, or has reached the manufacturer's service life for the shell or suspension. Inspect before each use and follow the assembly instructions for service-life guidance and proper storage away from heat and sunlight.
Can I get these hard hats printed with my company logo?
