Malta Dynamics APEX Type 2 Class C Safety Helmet

The Malta Dynamics APEX Type 2 Class C safety helmet is built for jobsites where impact can come from any direction. Unlike a traditional hard hat, a Type 2 helmet is tested for top, side, front, and rear impact, and the APEX rides low and secure on a 6-point suspension with a 4-point chin strap that keeps it in place during movement or a fall.

It meets ANSI Z89.1-2014 Type 2 Class C and is compliant with EN12492, OSHA 1910, and OSHA 1926. WaveOn technology lets a worker tap a smartphone to the helmet to pull up manuals, certifications, and inspection records with no app required. Choose from seven colors and an optional clear or tinted flip-up visor.

Who Needs This Product

This Type 2 safety helmet is head protection for crews exposed to lateral and angled impact, slips, trips, and falls, where a traditional top-impact-only hard hat falls short. The Class C designation means the shell is vented for breathability and is not rated for electrical hazards, so it suits non-electrical construction, climbing, and at-height work. The 4-point chin strap and harness-attach loop make it well suited for workers on ladders, lifts, and structures.

Features

Type 2 all-around impact

Tested for top, side, front, and rear impact, so the helmet protects against angled and lateral blows, not just top impact.

6-point suspension

A low-profile 6-point internal suspension with a comfort-adjustable headband fits head sizes 6 1/2 to 8 without a perched feel.

4-point chin strap

An adjustable, removable 4-point chin strap keeps the helmet in place during movement or a fall, with a loop for harness connection.

WaveOn technology

Tap a smartphone to the WaveOn decal to pull up registration, training docs, inspection records, and manuals with no app required.

Optional flip-up visor

Add a clear or tinted flip-up visor rated to ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2015; the tinted lens is 99 percent UV resistant.

Accessory ready

Integrated lamp clips for elastic headlamps and compatibility with most earmuff and ear-pro attachments.

Class C is not electrically rated. A Class C helmet is vented for breathability and offers no electrical protection. For work near energized conductors, choose a Class E helmet such as the APEX Type 2 Class E. Always fasten the chin strap, inspect the shell and suspension before each use, and retire the helmet after any impact or fall event.

  6. Store properly. Keep the helmet out of direct sunlight and away from heat between uses.

Inspection and Replacement

Inspect the helmet before each use and remove it from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Shell: cracks, dents, gouges, chalking, or a dull, brittle surface.
  • Suspension: frayed straps, broken keys, or any loose attachment point.
  • Chin strap: frayed webbing, a damaged buckle, or a worn harness-attach loop.
  • Impact: any helmet that has taken a blow or been worn in a fall, even with no visible damage.

Retire the helmet after any impact or fall event and replace the suspension and shell on the schedule in the manual.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Type 2 helmet and a Type 1 hard hat?
A Type 1 hard hat is tested only for top impact. A Type 2 helmet like the APEX is tested for top, side, front, and rear impact, so it protects against angled and lateral blows common in slips, trips, and falls. The APEX also adds a 4-point chin strap to keep it on during movement or a fall.
What does ANSI Class C mean, and is this helmet electrically rated?
Class C is the conductive class under ANSI Z89.1. It means the helmet is vented for breathability and offers no electrical protection. For work near energized conductors, choose the Class E version of the APEX instead. This Class C model is for non-electrical jobsites.
What colors and visor options are available?
The APEX Type 2 Class C comes in seven colors: black, white, grey, blue, red, yellow, and orange. You can choose no visor, a clear flip-up visor, or a tinted flip-up visor. Both visors are rated to ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2015, and the tinted lens blocks 99 percent of UV for outdoor work. Select your color and visor from the option menus.
What is WaveOn technology?
WaveOn is a built-in NFC decal. Tap a smartphone to it and the helmet pulls up product registration, training documents, inspection records, and manuals with no app required. It streamlines compliance and record-keeping for crews and safety managers.
How does the helmet fit and stay secure?
The APEX uses a low-profile 6-point internal suspension with a comfort-adjustable headband that fits head sizes 6 1/2 to 8. An adjustable, removable 4-point chin strap keeps the helmet in place during movement or a fall, and the strap includes a loop for harness connection.
Can I add accessories like a headlamp, earmuffs, or face shield?
Yes. The APEX has integrated lamp clips for elastic headlamps and is compatible with most earmuff and ear-pro attachments. A clear or tinted flip-up visor mounts to the helmet, and Malta Dynamics offers additional face shield and accessory options. Confirm compatibility for the Class C cap-style shell.
When should I replace the helmet?
Retire and replace the helmet after any impact or fall event, or if the shell shows cracks, dents, gouges, or chalking, or the suspension or chin strap is frayed or damaged. Inspect before each use and follow the helmet manual for service-life guidance and storage away from heat and sunlight.
