Who Needs This Product

This Type 2 Class E full brim helmet is head protection for crews who need both all-around impact protection and electrical safety. The Type 2 shell guards against top and lateral impact, the Class E rating protects against accidental contact with energized conductors up to 20,000 volts, and the full brim shades the face and neck and sheds rain. It suits electricians, linemen, and utility crews who also work at height.

Features

Tested for top, side, front, and rear impact, so the helmet protects against angled and lateral blows, not just top impact.

Class E to 20,000 volts

Rated to ANSI Z89.1-2014 Type 2 Class E, with electrical insulation tested up to 20,000 volts for utility and electrical work.

360-degree full brim

A full perimeter brim sheds sun, rain, and falling debris and shades the face and neck through the day.

Ratchet suspension

A comfort-fit ratchet suspension dials in a secure fit and adjusts easily to head sizes 6 1/2 to 8.

4-point chin strap

An adjustable, removable 4-point chin strap keeps the helmet secure during climbing, movement, and overhead work.

A helmet protects only when worn correctly and undamaged. Fasten the chin strap, keep the ratchet suspension properly adjusted, and never drill, paint, or modify the shell. The Class E rating depends on an intact, unmodified shell. Retire the helmet after any impact or fall event, inspect it before each use, and store it away from heat and direct sunlight per the manual.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z89.1-2014 Type 2

Industrial head protection standard; Type 2 helmets reduce force from top and lateral (side, front, rear) impact.

Fit and Wear Overview

Set up and wear per the Malta Dynamics helmet manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the shell, brim, suspension, and chin strap for cracks or damage before each use.
  2. Set the suspension. Adjust the ratchet suspension and headband for your head size (6 1/2 to 8).
  3. Fasten the chin strap. Connect and adjust the 4-point chin strap so the helmet stays level and secure.
  4. Confirm electrical use. Verify the shell is intact and unmodified before relying on the Class E rating.
  5. Register with WaveOn. Tap a smartphone to the WaveOn decal to register the helmet and access records.
  6. Store properly. Keep the helmet out of direct sunlight and away from heat between uses.

Inspection and Replacement

Inspect the helmet before each use and remove it from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Shell or brim: cracks, dents, gouges, chalking, or a dull, brittle surface.
  • Electrical integrity: any drilled hole, modification, or damage that compromises the Class E rating.
  • Suspension: a worn ratchet, frayed straps, or any loose attachment point.
  • Chin strap: frayed webbing or a damaged buckle.
  • Impact: any helmet that has taken a blow or been worn in a fall, even with no visible damage.

Retire the helmet after any impact or fall event, and replace the suspension and shell on the schedule in the manual.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ANSI type and class is the APEX Type 2 Class E helmet?
It is an ANSI Z89.1-2014 Type 2 Class E helmet. Type 2 means it is tested for top, side, front, and rear impact, and Class E means it provides electrical protection up to 20,000 volts. It is also compliant with EN12492, OSHA 1910, and OSHA 1926.
How is this different from the APEX Class C helmet?
Both are Type 2 helmets with all-around impact protection. The Class C version is vented and has no electrical rating, while this Class E version is rated for electrical work up to 20,000 volts and uses a full brim shell. Choose Class E for electrical and utility work, Class C for non-electrical jobs that want extra ventilation.
What colors does the Class E full brim come in?
The APEX Type 2 Class E full brim is available in white, yellow, grey, and orange. Select your color from the option menu. The colors help distinguish trades, crew leads, or high-visibility roles on site.
What is the advantage of the full brim design?
The full brim wraps 360 degrees around the helmet, so it shades the face, ears, and neck from sun and channels rain away from the collar. Combined with Type 2 lateral impact protection and the Class E electrical rating, it is well suited to electricians and utility crews who work outdoors.
Does the chin strap keep the helmet on during a fall?
Yes. The adjustable, removable 4-point chin strap keeps the helmet secure during climbing, movement, and overhead work, so it stays on the head during a slip, trip, or fall. This retention is a key reason Type 2 helmets are preferred for at-height work over standard hard hats.
What is WaveOn technology?
WaveOn is a built-in NFC decal. Tap a smartphone to it and the helmet pulls up manuals, certifications, and inspection records with no app required. It streamlines documentation workflows and helps crews and safety managers stay compliant with less effort.
When should I replace the helmet?
Retire and replace the helmet after any impact or fall event, or if the shell or brim shows cracks, dents, gouges, or chalking, or the suspension or chin strap is damaged. Any drilled hole or modification voids the Class E rating. Inspect before each use and follow the helmet manual for service-life and storage guidance.
