Malta Dynamics 4-Point Ratchet Full Brim Hard Hat

The Malta Dynamics full-brim hard hat surrounds the head with a 360-degree brim that sheds sun, rain, and falling debris, while a 4-point ratchet suspension dials in a secure, all-day fit. It is built and tested to ANSI Z89.1 Type 1 Class E, with electrical insulation up to 20,000 volts for utility and construction crews.

A rugged, lightweight polyethylene shell keeps the hat durable without added bulk, and cushion pillows plus a nape cushion pad the contact points for extended wear. Available in eight colors and made in the USA in an ISO 9001 registered facility, it is sold here in multi-unit color packs to outfit a crew.

Fit and Wear Overview

Set up and wear per the Malta Dynamics assembly instructions. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the shell, brim, and suspension for cracks, chalking, or damage before each use.
  2. Install the suspension. Seat all four suspension points fully into the shell per the instructions.
  3. Set the height. Adjust the front and rear vertical height so the hat sits level and clears the head.
  4. Dial the fit. Turn the ratchet to snug the headband for a secure, comfortable fit.
  5. Wear correctly. Wear the hard hat with the brim forward for full perimeter coverage.
  6. Store properly. Keep the hard hat out of direct sunlight and away from heat between uses.

Inspection and Replacement

Inspect the hard hat before each use and remove it from service if any of the conditions below are present.

  • Shell or brim: cracks, dents, gouges, chalking, or a dull, brittle surface.
  • Suspension: frayed straps, broken keys, a worn ratchet, or any loose attachment point.
  • Impact: any hard hat that has taken a blow or dropped a heavy object, even with no visible damage.
  • Chemical or heat exposure that has stiffened, faded, or warped the shell or brim.
  • Service life: replace per the manufacturer's stated shell and suspension service life.

Replace the suspension and shell on the schedule in the manual, and retire any hard hat after an impact or when it reaches the end of its service life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ANSI type and class is the Malta Dynamics full brim hard hat?
It is an ANSI Z89.1 Type 1 hard hat rated for top impact, and it carries a Class E electrical rating with insulation tested up to 20,000 volts. It is also compliant with OSHA 1910 and OSHA 1926 for general industry and construction head protection.
What is the advantage of a full brim over a cap style?
The full brim wraps 360 degrees around the hat, so it shades the face, ears, and neck and channels rain away from the collar. A cap style has a front-only bill. Full brim hard hats are popular with outdoor crews who want sun and rain coverage in addition to top-impact protection.
What colors does this hard hat come in?
The full brim is available in eight colors: white, grey, black, yellow, blue, red, orange, and green. Select your color from the option menu. The range lets you color-code trades, crew leads, or site visitors at a glance.
What does the 4-point ratchet suspension do?
The 4-point suspension anchors the headband to the shell at four points and absorbs impact energy. The ratchet lets you dial the headband to a secure, custom fit without removing the hat, and front and rear vertical height adjustment sets the ride height. Cushion pillows and a nape cushion add comfort for extended wear.
What is Class E electrical protection?
Class E (electrical) is an ANSI Z89.1 electrical class tested to 20,000 volts to reduce the danger from accidental head contact with energized conductors. It is the highest dielectric class in the standard and suits electrical, utility, and high-voltage-adjacent work.
When should I replace a full brim hard hat?
Retire and replace any hard hat that has taken an impact, shows cracks, dents, gouges, or chalking on the shell or brim, or has reached the manufacturer's service life for the shell or suspension. Inspect before each use and follow the assembly instructions for service-life guidance and storage away from heat and sunlight.
Can I get these hard hats printed with my company logo?
Yes. Malta Dynamics offers custom logo printing on these full brim hard hats so you can outfit a crew with company-branded head protection. Custom printing is arranged through Malta Dynamics; contact us and we can route a custom-print order for your color and quantity.
