C1000 High Strength Steel Locking Carabiner (4-Pack)

The Malta Dynamics C1000 is a quarter-turn self-locking steel carabiner that connects a lanyard, lifeline, or self-retracting lifeline to a compatible anchorage or harness D-ring. It is self-closing and self-locking, opens with one hand, and its ANSI-tested gate is rated to withstand face and side loads up to 3,600 lb.

Forged from zinc-plated alloy steel, the C1000 has a 5,000 lb minimum breaking strength and a 0.84 inch gate opening. It meets ANSI Z359.12-2009 and ANSI A10.32-12 and is OSHA compliant. This listing ships as a 4-pack so a crew can keep a locking connector on every harness, lanyard, and lifeline.

Who Needs This Product

The C1000 is a connector, the hardware that links the components of a personal fall arrest or restraint system. It clips a shock-absorbing lanyard, self-retracting lifeline, or rope grab lanyard to an anchorage connector or to a harness D-ring. A self-locking gate is required by OSHA and ANSI for fall protection connectors so the gate cannot roll open under load. Each worker still needs an ANSI full body harness, an anchorage rated for the system, and a compatible connecting device.

Features

Self-closing, self-locking

A quarter-turn barrel and spring-loaded gate require two deliberate actions to open, then snap closed and lock on their own so the connector cannot roll-out under load.

One-hand operation

The gate opens and locks with a single hand, so a worker can connect and disconnect while keeping the other hand on the structure or load.

3,600 lb gate strength

The gate is ANSI-tested to withstand face and side loads up to 3,600 lb, well beyond the rollout strength most connectors are required to carry.

5,000 lb breaking strength

A 5,000 lb minimum breaking strength meets the OSHA anchorage-connector strength threshold for personal fall arrest.

Corrosion-resistant build

Heavy-duty alloy steel with zinc plating resists rust and corrosion through repeated jobsite use in hot and cold conditions.

Independently verified

Backed by a Malta Dynamics Declaration of Conformity with third-party testing performed under ISO 17025 accreditation.

A connector is only one link in the system. The C1000 must be used with an ANSI full body harness, a compatible connecting device, and an anchorage rated for the system. Never connect two carabiners gate-to-gate, never load the gate, and always confirm the gate is fully closed and locked before relying on the connection. Inspect before every use and remove any connector from service after a fall.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.12-2009

American National Standard for connecting components of personal fall arrest systems, including connector gate strength.

ANSI A10.32-12

ANSI/ASSP standard for fall protection systems used in construction and demolition operations.

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502

Construction fall protection criteria, including connector and snap-hook requirements.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.66

General industry personal fall arrest system component requirements.

Typical Applications

Lanyard tie-offConnect a shock-absorbing lanyard to an anchorage or harness D-ring.
SRL connectionAttach a self-retracting lifeline to a compatible anchorage point.
Lifeline systemsEnd connector for vertical and horizontal lifeline assemblies.
Roofing crewsReusable locking connector for steep and low-slope roof work.
Steel erectionConnector for ironworkers tying off to beams and anchors.
General constructionEveryday locking connector across mixed fall protection kits.
Rope grab lanyardsConnect a rope grab lanyard to a dorsal D-ring.
Equipment stagingKeep a spare locking connector on every harness in the crew.

Use and Connection Overview

Use the C1000 per the Malta Dynamics Connectors user instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the gate, barrel, frame, and locking action before each use.
  2. Open. Twist the quarter-turn barrel, then pull the gate open with one hand.
  3. Connect. Clip the carabiner to a compatible anchorage connector or harness D-ring, never gate-to-gate with another connector.
  4. Lock. Release the gate and confirm it springs fully closed and the barrel relocks.
  5. Verify. Confirm the connection is captured, the gate is not loaded, and the connector cannot roll out.
  6. Plan clearance. Confirm fall clearance below the work surface before work begins.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every six months. Remove the connector from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Gate: does not fully close, does not self-lock, or sticks when operated.
  • Frame: cracks, deformation, deep gouges, or corrosion beyond surface discoloration.
  • Barrel: worn, damaged, or failing to return to the locked position.
  • Markings: capacity and standard markings must remain legible.
  • Wear: any sharp edges, burrs, or nicks at load-bearing surfaces.

Retirement triggers: any fall-arrest event, any cracked or deformed frame, any gate or barrel that fails to self-lock, or exposure to chemicals or heat beyond the manual limits. A connector exposed to a fall must be retired even if it appears undamaged.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Malta Dynamics C1000 carabiner used for?
The C1000 is a self-locking steel connector that links a lanyard, self-retracting lifeline, or rope grab lanyard to a compatible anchorage connector or harness D-ring. It is the hardware that ties the components of a personal fall arrest or restraint system together.
How strong is the C1000 carabiner?
The C1000 has a 5,000 lb minimum breaking strength and a gate rated to withstand face and side loads up to 3,600 lb. The 5,000 lb rating meets the OSHA strength threshold for fall protection connectors.
Is the C1000 gate self-locking?
Yes. The C1000 is self-closing and self-locking with a quarter-turn barrel. Opening it takes two deliberate actions: twist the barrel and pull the gate. It then snaps closed and relocks on its own, which OSHA and ANSI require so the gate cannot roll open under load.
How many carabiners come in this order?
This listing ships as a 4-pack of C1000 carabiners. The single-carabiner part number is C1000.
What is the gate opening on the C1000?
The C1000 gate opening is 0.84 inches, sized to clip standard anchorage connectors and harness D-rings. If you need a wider gate for towers or large structural members, the Malta Dynamics C1002 Tower Hook Carabiner offers a wider opening.
Which OSHA and ANSI standards does the C1000 meet?
The C1000 is OSHA compliant and meets ANSI Z359.12-2009 and ANSI A10.32-12. It is backed by a Malta Dynamics Declaration of Conformity with third-party testing under ISO 17025 accreditation.
What else do I need to build a complete fall protection system?
The C1000 is the connector only. You also need an ANSI full body harness, a compatible connecting device such as a self-retracting lifeline or a shock-absorbing lanyard, and an anchorage rated for the system. Use the Fall Protection Calculator below to plan clearance and components.
