C1002 Tower Hook Carabiner (2-Pack)
The Malta Dynamics C1002 Tower Hook Carabiner is a larger version of the high strength steel locking carabiner, built with a wide 1.97 inch gate so a worker can clip onto towers, lattice, scaffolding, and large structural members that a standard carabiner gate will not fit. It is self-closing and self-locking and opens with one hand.
The C1002 has a 5,000 lb minimum breaking strength and a 3,600 lb gate, and it meets ANSI Z359.12-2009 and ANSI A10.32-12 while remaining OSHA compliant. Its heavy-duty steel build stands up to repeated jobsite reuse. This listing ships as a 2-pack.

Who Needs This Product
The C1002 is a connector with an oversized gate for tying off to structural members too large for a standard carabiner: tower legs, lattice angles, scaffold tubes, and beams. It connects a lanyard, lifeline, or positioning device to that member or to an anchorage. Like any connector it is one link in the system, so each worker still needs an ANSI full body harness, a compatible connecting device, and an anchorage or member rated for the load.
Features
Wide 1.97 in gate
A notably wide gate opening clips around tower legs, lattice angles, scaffold tubes, and large structural members a standard carabiner cannot reach.
Self-closing, self-locking
The gate snaps closed and locks on its own and requires two deliberate actions to open, so it cannot roll out under load.
One-hand operation
The gate opens and locks with a single hand, important for tower and structural work where the other hand stays on the structure.
3,600 lb gate strength
The gate is ANSI-tested to withstand face and side loads up to 3,600 lb.
5,000 lb breaking strength
A 5,000 lb minimum breaking strength meets the OSHA strength threshold for fall protection connectors.
Heavy-duty steel
A rugged steel frame and gate handle the loads, stress, and repeated reuse of high-risk structural settings.

A wide gate still must be loaded correctly. Load the C1002 along its major axis with the gate closed and locked, never across the gate or in a three-way bind. Confirm the structural member can carry the anchorage load, never connect two carabiners gate-to-gate, and confirm the gate is fully closed and locked before relying on the connection. Remove from service after any fall.
Compliance Standards
ANSI Z359.12-2009
American National Standard for connecting components of personal fall arrest systems.
ANSI A10.32-12
ANSI/ASSP standard for fall protection systems in construction and demolition.
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502
Construction fall protection criteria, including connector and snap-hook requirements.
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.66
General industry personal fall arrest system component requirements.
Typical Applications
Use and Connection Overview
Use the C1002 per the Malta Dynamics Connectors user instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.
- Inspect. Check the gate, frame, and locking action before each use.
- Open. Perform the two-action gate release and open the wide gate with one hand.
- Connect. Clip around the structural member or anchorage so the load runs along the major axis, never across the gate.
- Lock. Release the gate and confirm it springs fully closed and relocks.
- Verify. Confirm the connection is captured, the gate is not loaded, and the connector cannot roll out.
- Plan clearance. Confirm fall clearance below the work surface before work begins.
Inspection and Retirement
Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every six months. Remove the connector from service for any of the conditions below.
- Gate: does not fully close, does not self-lock, or sticks when operated.
- Frame: cracks, deformation, deep gouges, or corrosion beyond surface discoloration.
- Nose and gate engagement: worn, damaged, or failing to capture fully.
- Markings: capacity and standard markings must remain legible.
- Wear: any sharp edges, burrs, or nicks at load-bearing surfaces.
Retirement triggers: any fall-arrest event, any cracked or deformed frame, any gate that fails to self-lock, or exposure to chemicals or heat beyond the manual limits. A connector exposed to a fall must be retired even if it appears undamaged.
