Who Needs This Product

The C5115 is the connecting device in a personal fall arrest system, with a rebar hook that clips directly to rebar, scaffold tube, or structural members where a snap hook will not reach. It is built for crews working in tight spaces around concrete reinforcement, formwork, and steel. Each connected worker also needs an ANSI full-body harness and an anchorage rated for the load. Because it is a single-leg lanyard, the worker is unprotected during repositioning; for 100 percent tie-off, use a double-leg lanyard instead.

Use Overview

Use per the Malta Dynamics lanyard user instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the webbing, stitching, shock absorber, and all connectors before each use.
  2. Verify the harness. Wear an ANSI-compliant full body harness, fitted and adjusted, with the dorsal D-ring centered between the shoulder blades.
  3. Verify the anchorage. Confirm the anchorage is rated for the personal fall arrest load and located to keep free fall within 6 feet.
  4. Calculate clearance. Add free fall, deceleration distance, harness stretch, and a safety margin, and confirm that sufficient fall clearance is maintained below the work surface.
  5. Connect. Clip the rebar hook to the anchorage and the snap hook to the dorsal D-ring, confirming each gate is fully closed and locked.
  6. Minimize swing falls. Keep the anchorage as directly overhead as possible to reduce pendulum swing.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every six months or per your program. Remove the lanyard from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Webbing: cuts, frays, abrasion, burns, chemical damage, or broken fibers.
  • Stitching: pulled, cut, or broken threads anywhere on the assembly.
  • Shock absorber: any sign of activation, deployment, or the warning label being exposed.
  • Hooks: cracks, deformation, corrosion, or a gate that does not close and lock.
  • Labels: must remain legible and intact.

Retirement triggers: any fall-arrest event, any sign the shock absorber has deployed, or any defect listed above. A lanyard that has been exposed to a fall must be permanently removed from service.
