Warthog Tongue and Buckle Harness with X-Pad

The Malta Dynamics Warthog Tongue and Buckle is a construction full body harness for personal fall arrest, and this version ships with the Malta X-Pad back comfort pad as a standard accessory. The harness pairs a dorsal D-ring for fall arrest with tongue-and-buckle leg straps for a precise, repeatable fit, while the breathable hook-and-loop X-Pad cushions the neck, shoulders, and back and keeps the shoulder pads from sliding off.

Rated for a 130 to 310 lb worker capacity including tools, the Warthog is built from polyester webbing with steel hardware and is tested to ANSI Z359.11-2021 and ANSI A10.32-2012. The one-piece construction stays put on the body, dual lanyard keepers stow a lanyard out of the way, and the harness is offered in four sizes from S-M through 3XL.

Who Needs This Product

The Warthog Tongue and Buckle is a full-body harness, the wearable element of a personal fall arrest system, and it is the harness for construction and roofing crews who want a proven Warthog with extra back comfort built in. The included X-Pad redistributes the weight of the harness and a tool belt across the neck, shoulders, and back, so it is a strong choice for workers who spend full shifts tied off. It is body-wear only and still needs an anchorage connector and a self-retracting lifeline or energy-absorbing lanyard clipped to the dorsal D-ring to form a complete system.

Features

X-Pad back comfort pad

The breathable X-Pad attaches with hook-and-loop fasteners, cushions the neck, shoulders, and back, and lifts off for laundering.

Dorsal D-ring

A single back D-ring is the fall-arrest attachment point and keeps the worker upright if a fall is arrested.

Tongue and buckle legs

Tongue-and-buckle leg straps adjust to a precise, repeatable fit and hold it without slipping through the workday.

One-piece construction

The harness is built as a single continuous piece of webbing, so it stays in place on the body and does not shift.

No shoulder-pad slippage

The X-Pad locks the shoulder pads in place so they stay put and will not slide off under a tool belt or load.

Lanyard keepers

Dual lanyard keepers hold a lanyard out of the way while working and release cleanly under load.

A harness alone will not stop a fall. The Warthog is the body-wear element only. Connect the dorsal D-ring to a compatible anchorage and a self-retracting lifeline or energy-absorbing lanyard, match every component to the same 310 lb capacity, and calculate fall clearance before tying off. Inspect the harness before each use and retire it after any fall-arrest event.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.11-2021

ANSI/ASSP standard for full body harnesses, covering design, strength, labeling, and dynamic performance.

ANSI A10.32-2012

Fit and Donning Overview

Don and adjust per the Malta Dynamics full body harness instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check webbing, stitching, the dorsal D-ring, the X-Pad, and labels before each use.
  2. Shake out. Hold the dorsal D-ring and shake the harness so the straps fall free, then release any fastened buckles.
  3. Shoulder it. Slip the straps over your shoulders with the dorsal D-ring centered between the shoulder blades.
  4. Leg straps. Route each leg through a leg strap and connect the tongue-and-buckle, snug but not pinching.
  5. Chest strap. Connect the chest strap and position it 6 to 8 inches below the throat.
  6. Final fit. Adjust all straps so the harness is snug with no slack, seat the X-Pad, and confirm fall clearance before tying off.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every six months. Remove the harness from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Webbing: cuts, frays, burns, chemical or heat damage, broken fibers, or excessive wear.
  • Stitching: pulled, cut, or broken threads at any load-bearing seam.
  • Hardware: cracked, bent, corroded, or distorted dorsal D-ring or buckles.
  • X-Pad: damaged hook-and-loop or torn pad, which is a comfort accessory and does not bear fall-arrest load.
  • Labels: must remain legible and intact for the harness to stay in service.

Retirement triggers: any fall-arrest event or any damage to webbing, stitching, or hardware above. A harness that has been exposed to a fall must be permanently removed from service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Warthog Tongue and Buckle harness with X-Pad?
It is the Malta Dynamics Warthog construction full body harness, bundled with the Malta X-Pad back comfort pad as a standard accessory. The harness gives a worker a dorsal D-ring to tie off a personal fall arrest system, and the X-Pad cushions the neck, shoulders, and back for all-day comfort. It is the body-wear element of a fall protection system and must be paired with an anchorage and a connecting device.
What does the X-Pad do?
The X-Pad is a breathable back comfort pad that attaches to the harness with hook-and-loop fasteners. It redistributes the weight of the harness and a tool belt across the neck, shoulders, and back, keeps the shoulder pads from sliding off, and removes easily for laundering. It is a comfort accessory and does not carry fall-arrest load, which is handled by the harness webbing and dorsal D-ring.
What is the weight capacity of the Warthog harness?
The Warthog has a worker capacity range of 130 to 310 lb, including the worker plus all tools and equipment. Every other component in the fall protection system must be rated for the same 310 lb capacity, since a system is only rated to its lowest-rated part.
What sizes does this harness come in?
The Warthog with X-Pad is available in four sizes: S-M (B2006-X), L-XL (B2002-X), 2XL (B2003-X), and 3XL (B2004-X). Choose your size on this page. Tongue-and-buckle legs and adjustable shoulder and chest straps let each size dial in a precise fit; the harness should be snug with no slack before use.
What kind of D-ring does the Warthog have?
The Warthog Tongue and Buckle has a single dorsal, or back, D-ring. The dorsal D-ring is the OSHA-recognized fall-arrest attachment point on a full body harness, positioned between the shoulder blades so the worker is held head-up after an arrest. This model does not have side positioning or sternal climbing D-rings.
Which OSHA and ANSI standards does the Warthog meet?
The Warthog with X-Pad is tested to ANSI Z359.11-2021 for full body harnesses and ANSI A10.32-2012 for construction fall protection, and it is OSHA compliant for personal fall arrest. Per its Declaration of Conformity (Declaration #MDL1PO371) it was tested by an independent third-party laboratory accredited to ISO 17025. The Declaration is linked in the Submittals section below.
What else do I need to build a complete fall protection system?
The Warthog is the harness only. Each worker also needs an anchorage connector and a connecting device, either a self-retracting lifeline or a shock-absorbing lanyard, clipped to the dorsal D-ring. Size the connector free fall and deceleration distance to the fall clearance available below the work surface, and use the Fall Protection Calculator below to plan the system.
