Malta Dynamics Self-Retracting Lifelines

6 ft Wild Boar Single-Leg Personal SRL, Class 1-P

The Malta Dynamics 6 ft Wild Boar Single-Leg Personal SRL is a compact, palm-sized self-retracting lifeline built for short-range tie-off where mobility matters as much as protection. An impact-resistant polymer housing and a high-strength UHMWPE and polyester lifeline keep the unit light without giving up jobsite durability, and a 360-degree swivel top lets the worker move freely without twisting the line.

Rated as a Class 1-P device for anchorage at or above the dorsal D-ring, each unit supports a single worker from 130 to 310 lb with a maximum arresting force of 1,800 lbf, an average arresting force of 1,350 lbf, and a maximum arresting distance of 42 inches. Choose a standard snap hook (C4102) or a wide-gate rebar hook (C4103). Need 100 percent tie-off while moving between anchor points? See the twin-leg Wild Boar Personal SRL. Tested to ANSI Z359.14-2021 and OSHA standards.

Who Needs This Product

The Wild Boar Single-Leg Personal SRL is the connecting device in a personal fall arrest system - the link between a worker's dorsal D-ring and an overhead anchorage at or above that D-ring. It suits compact, highly active work zones where a full-length lanyard would create excess slack and snag hazards. Each worker still needs an ANSI full body harness and a compatible overhead anchorage. This single-leg unit protects one worker on one anchor point; if your crew needs to stay attached while transferring between anchor points, choose the twin-leg version for 100 percent tie-off.

Features

Palm-sized personal SRL

A compact Class 1-P unit that fits in the palm of your hand, ideal for tight, elevated, and confined work areas where bulk gets in the way.

360-degree swivel top

A swivel anchorage top lets the worker move and turn freely while the lifeline pays out and retracts without twisting.

UHMWPE and polyester lifeline

A high-strength UHMWPE and polyester web lifeline delivers long-lasting performance and smooth, controlled retraction with minimal weight.

Two hook options

Choose a standard steel snap hook for everyday anchorage or a wide-gate rebar hook for larger anchor points such as rebar and scaffolding.

Lightweight build

At 2.7 lb with a snap hook or 2.9 lb with a rebar hook, the single-leg unit is light enough to wear all shift without adding fatigue.

External shock pack

An external shock pack with a protective cover dissipates arresting force, and an impact-resistant polymer housing stands up to heavy jobsite use.

For overhead use only. The Wild Boar Personal SRL is a Class 1-P device rated for anchorage at or above the dorsal D-ring. Confirm your anchorage meets the strength requirement, calculate fall clearance and swing-fall clearance before each use, and never use a damaged unit or one that has arrested a fall. Each worker also needs an ANSI full body harness.

Compliance Standards

ANSI/ASSP Z359.14-2021

The current ANSI standard for self-retracting devices. The Wild Boar Personal SRL is tested as a Class 1-P (personal) device.

OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart M

Construction fall protection, including personal fall arrest system requirements under 1926.502.

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502

Fall protection systems criteria and practices for construction work.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910 / 1910.66

General industry personal fall arrest requirements covering anchorage and connecting devices.

Typical Applications

Confined spacesCompact tie-off where a full lanyard would snag or hang up.
Tower and structuralMobile climbing work with overhead anchorage above the D-ring.
Steel erectionShort-range arrest for ironworkers moving across connections.
Mechanical and HVACRooftop and platform service with limited clearance.
Aerial lifts and platformsLow-profile arrest for boom and scissor-lift work.
Rebar and scaffoldingRebar-hook units clip larger anchor points and bar.
Maintenance crewsLightweight everyday SRL for repetitive elevated tasks.
General constructionActive jobsites needing low-profile fall arrest.

Use Overview

Use per the Malta Dynamics self-retracting lifeline instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check the housing, lifeline, swivel, hook gate, and shock pack before each use, and confirm the load indicator has not deployed.
  2. Anchor overhead. Connect the swivel top to an anchorage at or above the dorsal D-ring that meets the system strength requirement.
  3. Don the harness. Put on an ANSI full body harness and confirm a snug fit.
  4. Connect. Clip the SRL snap hook or rebar hook to the dorsal D-ring.
  5. Verify clearance. Calculate required fall clearance and swing-fall clearance below the work surface before starting work.
  6. Work. Let the lifeline extend and retract smoothly as you move within range of the anchor point.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every six months (or more often per your program). Remove the SRL from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Housing: cracks, deformation, or impact damage.
  • Lifeline: cuts, frays, burns, chemical damage, or pulled stitches.
  • Retraction: line that does not retract smoothly or fails to lock when pulled sharply.
  • Hook and swivel: bent gate, weak gate spring, corrosion, or a swivel that binds.
  • Shock pack and indicator: any sign the energy absorber or load indicator has deployed.
  • Labels: must remain legible and intact.

Retirement triggers: any fall-arrest event, a deployed shock pack or load indicator, or any cut, burn, or housing crack. Remove the unit from service immediately and tag it so it cannot be reused.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Class 1-P SRL and how does the Wild Boar Single-Leg Personal SRL differ from a standard SRL?
Class 1-P designates a personal self-retracting lifeline rated for anchorage at or above the dorsal D-ring. The Wild Boar Single-Leg Personal SRL is a 6 ft personal unit small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, designed to be worn close to the body for short-range, highly mobile work, rather than a larger SRL mounted to a fixed overhead anchor.
Can I get this SRL for 100 percent tie-off?
This page is the single-leg unit, which protects one worker on one anchor point. For continuous 100 percent tie-off while transferring between anchor points, choose the twin-leg Wild Boar Personal SRL, which pairs two personal SRLs through an included C1004 dual connector.
What is the difference between the snap hook (C4102) and rebar hook (C4103) options?
C4102 uses a standard alloy steel snap hook for everyday anchor points. C4103 uses a wide-gate rebar hook that opens far enough to connect to larger anchor points such as rebar, scaffold tube, and structural members. Both are the same 6 ft Class 1-P single-leg SRL otherwise.
What are the arresting force and arresting distance ratings?
The Wild Boar Personal SRL has a maximum arresting force of 1,800 lbf, an average arresting force of 1,350 lbf, and a maximum arresting distance of 42 inches. Use these figures with your anchorage height to calculate required fall clearance before each use.
What worker weight range does it support?
The SRL supports a single user in the 130 to 310 lb capacity range, including the worker plus tools and equipment. Confirm your fully equipped weight falls within that range before use.
Which standards does the Wild Boar Personal SRL meet?
Per the spec sheet, the unit meets ANSI/ASSP Z359.14-2021 and OSHA fall protection standards, including 1926 Subpart M, 1926.502, OSHA 1910, and 1910.66. A Declaration of Conformity is linked in the Submittals section for your records.
What else do I need to build a complete fall arrest system?
The SRL is the connecting device only. Each worker also needs an ANSI full body harness and an overhead anchorage at or above the dorsal D-ring that meets the system strength requirement. Use the Fall Protection Calculator below to confirm fall clearance and swing-fall clearance for your setup.
