4015-Z Anti-Panic Removable Rope Grab, 2-Pack

The Super Anchor 4015-Z is a zinc plated steel ADP fall arrester with a hinged, key locked gate that installs onto or removes from any point on a 5/8 inch SAS lifeline, no need to feed the rope through from the end. The panic grab function guards against unintentional disengagement during a fall, and the cam locks onto the rope in a single direction with a 3,600 lb breaking strength.

Who Needs This Product

Workers who move on and off lifelines during the day and want a grab that installs at any point on the rope instead of threading from the end. The keyed gate with lock nut opens for mid-line attachment, and the anti-panic function keeps a falling worker from unintentionally releasing the cam, a hazard with basic mechanical grabs. Rig it with the direction arrow toward the anchor, a connecting component no longer than 30 inches, and a personal energy absorber on a full body harness. The 4015-Z is not rated for reverse rigging and always works as part of a complete personal fall arrest system.

Direction matters. A fall arrester installed with the direction arrow pointing away from the lifeline anchorage end will not lock, resulting in serious injury or death in a fall. Confirm arrow orientation, perform the cam lock and mobility tests before each use, and never attach the arrester directly to the harness dorsal or side D-ring or use it for reverse rigging.

Installation Overview

Complete gate operation figures and lock tests are in the SAS Lifeline Manual 05-2024 linked below. The basics:

  1. Open the gate lock clip, position the gate key into the key slot, and unthread the gate lock nut.
  2. Place the lifeline into the rope cavity with the direction arrow pointing to the lifeline A-end at the anchor.
  3. Seat the gate key in the key slot, close the gate lock clip, and securely tighten the lock nut.
  4. Connect the arrester ring to a personal energy absorber or connecting component no longer than 30 inches, then to the harness dorsal D-ring.
  5. Tie a limiter knot below the working position to gauge free fall length and prevent disengagement at the rope end.
  6. Perform the cam lock test and mobility test before each use; any movement failure removes the arrester from service.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before installation and each use, with documented annual inspections. Remove the equipment from service when any of the following apply:

  • The connector ring is bent or deformed, or the ring spring is missing or fails the spring test.
  • The cam lock or rope cavity contains debris that a cleaning and retest does not resolve.
  • The gate will not open and close correctly, or the lock nut will not tighten.
  • The direction arrow is not pointing to the lifeline A-end; remove and reinstall in the correct orientation.
  • Deep pitting or extreme rust is present on the zinc plating.
  • The arrester was subjected to a free fall.

Tag equipment removed from service to prevent further use until inspected by a qualified or competent person.

What does the anti-panic function do?
In a fall, a worker instinctively grabs whatever is closest, often the rope grab itself. The panic grab function keeps the 4015-Z locked onto the lifeline even when grabbed, guarding against the unintentional disengagement that can happen with a basic cam grab. Make sure the connecting hardware and anchorage suit your application before you attach a lanyard or lifeline.
What does ADP mean?
Automatic Dorsal with Panic Grab, a CSA term for fall arresters that lock automatically when force is applied through the dorsal connection and resist release during a fall. The 4015-Z carries the CSA Z259.2.5 classification. Pair it only with connectors and equipment that are approved for use together so the complete system performs as designed.
How is the 4015-Z different from the 4015-M?
Both are zinc plated steel with 3,600 lb breaking strength and single direction locking. The 4015-Z opens with a keyed gate to install or remove at any point on the lifeline, and adds the panic grab function; the 4015-M is captive on the rope and adjusts with a cam lever.
Why is the connecting component limited to 30 inches?
A longer connection increases free fall distance before the arrester loads and locks. SAS specifies a maximum 30 inch (750 mm) connecting component between the 4015-Z and the harness, with an energy absorber sized for the user weight. Confirm each component in the system is compatible and rated for the intended use before connecting to it.
Can I use the 4015-Z for reverse rigging?
No. Only the SuperGrab and ValueGrab prussic grabs are rated for reverse rigging. A mechanical arrester at the anchorage end may fail to function properly in a free fall. Refer to the specification table above for full details on construction, finish, and sizing. If you have any doubt about the correct setup, consult a qualified person or the manufacturer instructions before putting the system into service.
What tests are required before each use?
Three checks: the cam lock test, in which the arrester must not move when the ring is pulled against a held lifeline, the mobility test, in which it must slide freely with the ring held open, and the ring spring test, in which the connector ring must snap back to the locked position.
How much clearance do I need below the work surface?
Plan for the full length of fall: up to a 6 ft free fall, 39 inches of arrester deceleration, up to 66 inches of energy absorber deployment, about 14 inches of harness stretch, plus a 24 inch ground clearance margin. The lifeline manual includes a worked 16 ft example.

Super Anchor Safety (SAS) warrants to the purchaser that all products are free from defect in material and workmanship at the time of shipment. This warranty is limited to product replacement for a period of one (1) year from the date of installation or use by the owner, provided that this period shall not exceed two (2) years from the date of shipment. This warranty only covers defects in material and workmanship. It does not cover conditions resulting from normal wear, neglect, abuse, or accident. This product warranty does not cover oxidation of zinc, dacromet, or powder coatings used on permanent and temporary anchors that results from connector abrasion unless the coating can be shown to be defective at the time of purchase. This warranty is non-transferable. Any unused defective product will be replaced at no charge by returning the product to Super Anchor Safety or to the distributor the product was purchased from.

Permanent Anchor Warranty

Super Anchor Safety warrants to the purchaser that all anchors sold as a permanent fixture with Hot Dip Galvanizing, Stainless Steel, and Thermo-Plastic finishes are fully warranted against failure due to defects in materials or workmanship for a period of five (5) years from the date of initial installation. SAS does not warranty the installation or flashing system used to waterproof the anchors. The SAS factory warranty is void if the product has been modified or has not been used in accordance with SAS specifications and instructions for that product. Anchors that have been removed from service due to re-roofing or remodel of the structure they were originally attached to must be inspected by an SAS factory representative or a competent person before being reinstalled.
