Who Needs This Product

This product is a rebar positioning chain assembly - the ironworker's third hand. Clip the swivel rebar hook to the curtain, lean back into the harness side D-rings, and both hands are free to tie. Chain shrugs off the hot, abrasive, torch-adjacent work that destroys webbing positioning devices. Use with a harness positioning system; a separate fall arrest system is still required.

Positioning is not fall arrest. A positioning chain holds you in place at the work - it does not catch a fall. OSHA requires an independent personal fall arrest system in addition to positioning. Inspect the chain, hooks, and swivel before each use, and connect only per the Frontline manual.

Compliance Standards

ANSI A10.32

Fall protection requirements for construction and demolition operations.

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502

Federal construction fall protection criteria, including positioning device requirements.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910

General industry requirements.

FormworkHold position at walls and decks.
Precast connectionsSteady at the joint.
Tower legsPositioning at lattice steel.
Hot work zonesChain survives slag and sparks.

How to Use the PSSW2R-US

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check chain, hooks, swivel, and gates before each use.
  2. Connect to the work. Clip the swivel rebar hook over the rebar or member.
  3. Connect to the harness. Snap the side hooks to both positioning D-rings.
  4. Load and lean. Set your stance and lean into the system - hands free.
  5. Keep arrest separate. Maintain your independent fall arrest connection at all times.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Pull the equipment from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Chain links: stretch, deformation, nicks, gouges, or corrosion.
  • Hooks: deformation, cracks, corrosion, or gates that fail to close and double-lock.
  • Swivel: free rotation, no play or cracking at the bearing.
  • Connection points: wear at the union and end fittings.
  • Markings: labels must be present and legible.

Retire the assembly immediately after any fall event, any dropped-load shock, or if any inspection point fails. Destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it really made in the USA?
Yes - manufactured in the USA using US and imported components by a UL registered ISO 9001:2015 firm. The Frontline manufacturer letter confirming PSSW2R-US by name is linked in Submittals.
How long is it?
22 inches from bearing to bearing, per the spec sheet.
What is the capacity?
310 lbs user capacity.
Is this fall arrest?
No - positioning only. OSHA requires an independent fall arrest system in addition to a positioning device.
What does "100 percent proof load tested" mean?
Both snaphooks and the rebar hook on every assembly are individually load tested before shipping - not batch sampled.
How does it differ from the PSSW2R?
The -US is the Made-in-USA Patriot build with twist link chain and double locking zinc chromate hooks; the PSSW2R is the imported Grade 80 Y-assembly. Same job, different sourcing requirements.
What is the difference between fall arrest and fall restraint?
Fall arrest catches a worker after a fall happens; fall restraint prevents the worker from reaching the fall hazard in the first place. For a deeper walkthrough with system examples, read our guide: Fall Arrest vs. Fall Restraint. Use the Fall Protection Calculator below to size the right system for your job.
