VLPR3L Premium Vertical Lifeline with Openable Rope Grab and Shock Pack

The Frontline VLPR3L is the complete vertical fall arrest connection in one kit: a premium 5/8 in polysteel lifeline, a forged steel openable self-tracking rope grab, and an integrated shock pack - everything between the overhead anchor and your dorsal D-ring.

The rope grab self-tracks as you climb and locks in a fall; the shock pack limits arrest forces. Hardware carries a 5,000 lb breaking strength (zinc coated), the rope and webbing 6,000 lbs, with a 310 lb capacity, built to ANSI Z359.15-2014 and aligning with OSHA 1926 and 1910. Offered in 25, 50, 100, and 200 ft.

Clearance includes the shock pack. Total fall clearance is the rope grab activation distance plus shock pack deployment plus harness stretch plus your height below the D-ring - bigger than a bare grab. Run the calculator below, function-test the grab before climbing, and protect the rope from edges.

How to Use the VLPR3L

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check rope, grab, anti-panic function, and shock pack before each use.
  2. Anchor the lifeline. Clip the top to a rated overhead anchorage connector.
  3. Position the grab. Confirm the self-tracking grab is on the rope correctly, UP toward the anchor.
  4. Connect the shock pack. Attach to the dorsal D-ring of your harness.
  5. Function test and verify clearance. Snap the grab down sharply to confirm lock; run the calculator below.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Pull the equipment from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Rope: cuts, fraying, abrasion, burns, chemical damage, soft spots, or heavy soiling.
  • Snaphook / termination: deformation, cracks, corrosion, or a gate that fails to close and lock.
  • Rope grab (where fitted): cam wear, anti-panic function, and positive lock on a downward snap.
  • Shock pack (where fitted): deployment or torn cover.
  • Markings: labels must be present and legible.

Retire the lifeline immediately after any fall arrest event or if any inspection point fails. Destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

What lengths are available?
25, 50, 100, and 200 ft (VLP25R3L through VLP200R3L).
Does the grab track automatically?
Yes - it is self-tracking, following you up and down hands-free and locking in a fall.
What standard does it meet?
ANSI Z359.15-2014 for single anchor lifelines and fall arresters; the test report is linked in Submittals.
What is the capacity?
One worker up to 310 lbs including clothing and tools.
How is it different from buying the parts separately?
The grab, shock pack, and rope are matched and tested as an assembly - no compatibility guesswork.
What is the difference between fall arrest and fall restraint?
Fall arrest catches a worker after a fall happens; fall restraint prevents the worker from reaching the fall hazard in the first place.
