Safe-T Self-Closing Ladder Gate
The Guardian 10798 closes the gap the ladder leaves behind: a self-closing gate that mounts to the Safe-T Ladder Extension and swings shut automatically after the worker steps through. The opening at the top of a ladder is an unprotected edge every time someone is not standing in it; the 10798 protects it without anyone remembering to close anything.
Lightweight, durable, and compliant with applicable OSHA regulations, the gate completes the ladder access point: extension rails for the transition, gate for the opening.

Who Needs This Product
Guardrails around a roof access point are only as good as the opening where the ladder lands. A chain or a bar depends on the last worker clipping it back; a self-closing gate does not. The 10798 mounts to the Guardian Safe-T Ladder Extension and swings closed behind every step-through, keeping the access point protected all day without relying on habit. For facilities and recurring-access rooftops, the extension-plus-gate combination turns a bare ladder landing into a controlled access point.

A gate protects the opening, not the worker on the ladder. The 10798 closes the access opening at the top; it is not an anchorage and does not arrest falls. Install it on the Safe-T Ladder Extension per the instruction sheet, and verify the self-closing action before each work period.
Compliance Standards
OSHA opening protection
Protects the ladder access opening as part of a compliant guardrail or access arrangement.
OSHA 1926.1053 practice

Typical Applications
Installation Overview
Installation must follow the Guardian ladder gate instruction sheet (1600217). The sequence below is an overview only.
- Inspect first. Check the gate, hinges, and spring mechanism for damage before installation.
- Install the extension. Mount the Guardian 10800 Safe-T Ladder Extension to the ladder per its manual.
- Mount the gate. Attach the 10798 to the extension per the instruction sheet.
- Verify the swing. Confirm the gate opens in the intended direction and self-closes fully every time.
- Check the fit. Confirm the closed gate spans the opening with no gaps a worker could back through.
- Re-verify daily. Test the self-closing action at the start of each work period.
Inspection and Retirement
Inspect before each use. Remove the gate from service for any of the conditions below.
- Spring mechanism that does not fully close the gate.
- Bent, cracked, or deformed gate members or hinges.
- Corrosion that impairs the hinge or spring action.
- Loose or missing mounting hardware.
- Missing or illegible labels.
Retirement triggers: a gate that will not self-close, structural damage, or any condition where the inspector cannot positively verify the gate is fit for service.
