Why Are Compatible Fall Protection Anchors Critical for Lyon Metal Roofing Panels?

Lyon Metal Roofing's panels are durable and long-lasting, but ensuring worker safety during installation and maintenance is essential. Fall protection systems compatible with Lyon's roofing products are critical to preserving workers' safety and the panels' structural integrity.

Using penetrating fall protection systems that require drilling into the roof can compromise Lyon's roofing panels by creating weak points, increasing the likelihood of leaks, and voiding warranties. Non-penetrating anchors are ideal, clamping directly onto standing seam profiles or over the roof peak without altering the roof structure. To ensure OSHA compliance while protecting your investment, we recommend the following specialized components:

  • Standing Seam Roof Anchor (SSRA1): Designed to clamp securely to standing seams without drilling, the SSRA1 ensures OSHA-compliant safety while maintaining the roof's structural and aesthetic integrity.
  • SSRA2 Adjustable Roof Jacks: Pair with SSRA1 anchors to support 10-foot walkboards, creating stable work surfaces that enhance worker mobility and safety on the job site.
  • SSRA3 Anchor Plates: Combined with horizontal lifeline systems, these allow multiple workers to remain securely tied off while covering extensive roof areas.
  • 100-Foot SSRA Temporary HLL Kit: A complete, non-penetrating solution for temporary projects, utilizing SSRA1 anchors and SSRA3 plates for rapid deployment.
  • 120-Foot Super Anchor Permanent HLL Kit: Provides a dedicated, non-penetrating cable system for long-term facility access and maintenance featuring 5-inch galvanized steel riser posts.
  • Ridge Pro Steep Assist Anchor: The designated solution for nailstrip profiles or lighter gauge materials, providing 100% tie-off on slopes ranging from 6:12 to 12:12.

Proper Attachment: Set Screws and Torque Requirements

Your safety and the SSRA1 anchor's certified holding power depend on correct set screw application. We provide specialized fastening options based on the material gauge of your Lyon panels:

  • Cupped-Tip Stainless Steel Set Screws: Use these exclusively on 22-gauge steel panels. Torque them to 90 inch-pounds for a secure, non-destructive lock.
  • Nylon-Tipped Set Screws: Apply these to 22- or 24-gauge steel panels to achieve certified holding power. Torque them to 180–200 inch-pounds for maximum strength.
  • Maintenance: Treat nylon tips as consumables. Replace them every 3 to 5 uses to ensure they maintain the necessary coefficient of friction.

CRITICAL WARNING: NO IMPACT GUNS

Never use an impact gun to install set screws. Over-torquing with an impact driver will crush the standing seam, damage the anchor hardware, and void the Lyon Metal Roofing warranty. Always use a calibrated torque wrench for final installation.

Lyon Mechanical Trapezoidal Panels (SSRA Compatible 24 ga. Steel)

Trapezoidal panels are a durable and practical choice for various roofing applications, particularly in commercial and industrial settings. These panels are made of 24-gauge steel directly on-site to meet specific project needs. They are available in various finishes, including Akzo-Nobel Ceram-a-Star 1050 Select, HYLAR PVDF, SMP, Akzo-Nobel Frost, and Galvalume. Backed by a comprehensive warranty, the panels include a limited lifetime guarantee for film integrity and 30-year warranties for chalk and fade resistance. See the Roof Anchor Compatibility Chart for Lyon Metal Mechanical Trapezoidal Roofing Standing Seam Panels.

Fall Protection for Trapezoidal Panels

  • The SSRA1 Seam Anchor (Trapezoidal version) is a dependable tie-off point for fall arrest equipment.
  • Staging and Access: The SSRA2 Adjustable Roof Jack can be paired with the SSRA1 to create stable work surfaces to support 10-foot walkboards.
  • Temporary Horizontal Mobility: Use the SSRA3 Anchor Plate with the 100-Foot SSRA Temporary HLL Kit to allow workers to move securely along the roofline.
  • Permanent Horizontal Mobility: For long-term maintenance, the 120-Foot Super Anchor Permanent HLL Kit provides a dedicated, non-penetrating cable system.
  • The Ridge Pro Steep Assist anchor is an excellent alternative option for roof slopes between 6:12 and 12:12.

Lyon Standing Seam Panels (SSRA Compatible 24 ga. Steel)

The Lyon Standing Seam panel is a high-performance standing seam solution that utilizes a separate clip system rather than an integrated nailstrip. This design allows for superior thermal expansion and contraction, making it a preferred choice for larger residential and commercial spans. Manufactured in 24-gauge steel as standard, these panels are available in rib heights of 1", 1.5", and 1.75". Using a clip-down method over solid decking or open purlins, the system maintains a sleek, fastener-free appearance while providing significant wind uplift resistance. See the Roof Anchor Compatibility Chart for Lyon Metal Roofing Standing Seam Panels.

Fall Protection for Lyon Clip Panels

  • Primary Tie-Off: For 24-gauge steel panels, the SSRA1 Seam Anchor provides a certified, non-penetrating attachment point that preserves the panel's watertight integrity.
  • Walkboard Access: You can mount SSRA2 Adjustable Roof Jacks directly to the SSRA1 anchors to create level staging areas for 10-foot walkboards.
  • Horizontal Mobility (Temporary): Use SSRA3 Anchor Plates in conjunction with the 100-Foot SSRA Temporary HLL Kit to allow multiple workers to traverse the roofline while remaining securely tied off.
  • Horizontal Mobility (Permanent): For long-term facility maintenance, the 120-Foot Super Anchor Permanent HLL Kit is the compatible solution for 24-gauge steel Lyon Clip panels.
  • Steep Slope Alternative: For slopes ranging from 6:12 to 12:12, or when working on aluminum versions of this panel, the Ridge Pro Steep Assist Anchor is the designated ridge-mounted solution.

Lyon Nailstrip Panel (Ridge Pro Only)

The Nailstrip panel is a versatile, durable option for residential and commercial roofing applications. Manufactured in 24-gauge steel as standard, this panel is available in rib heights of 1", 1.5", and 1.75". The standard panel width is 16" with the 1" rib height. This panel can be configured with a nail strip or clip system, making it adaptable for various installation preferences. See the Roof Anchor Compatibility Chart for Lyon Metal Roofing Nailstrip Standing Seam Panels.

Fall Protection for Nailstrip Panels

  • Primary Solution: The Nailstrip panel's design limits compatibility with traditional seam-mounted anchors. The Ridge Pro Steep Assist anchor is the designated solution for roof slopes ranging from 6:12 to 12:12.
  • Safety Advantage: This ridge-mounted system hooks securely over the roof peak, providing a stable tie-off point without penetrating the panel surface, ensuring 100% tie-off while safeguarding the roof's structural integrity.

Why American-Engineered Reliability Outperforms Global Imports

Look-alike fall protection anchors increasingly flood the US market, claiming universal compatibility while failing to provide the verified, third-party engineering reports required by OSHA 1926.502 and ANSI Z359.18.

The SSRA system replaces that uncertainty with the absolute transparency of American engineering. We manufacture, lab-test, and certify every SSRA component right here in the United States, providing you with the comprehensive engineering reports that imported alternatives cannot offer. Investing in SSRA means you are securing a domestic safety partnership that protects your crew on the ridge and your professional reputation in the courtroom.
