Double-Action Twist-Lock Steel Carabiner, 2-Pack

The 17D-1 is the forged steel workhorse connector: a double-action twist-lock gate with a 1 inch opening, corrosion-resistant finish, and the strength margin that lets it live anywhere in the system. Sold as a 2-pack.

Forged steel construction delivers maximum strength and durability with a locking action that cannot open against a load.

Who Needs This Product

Carabiners disappear into systems two at a time, which is how this one is sold: connecting SRL housings to anchor straps, building rescue rigs, and replacing the connector that walked off last week. The double-action twist-lock satisfies the standards everywhere a connector belongs.

Features

Double-Action Twist-Lock

Two deliberate motions to open; impossible to roll out against a D-ring.

Forged Steel Body

Forging beats machining for strength per ounce and fatigue life.

1 Inch Gate

Swallows D-rings, anchor straps, and standard interface hardware.

Corrosion Resistance

Finished to resist rust and environmental stress.

Universal Component

At home connecting SRLs, straps, rescue rigging, and accessories.

Value 2-Pack

Two connectors per order, matching how systems actually consume them.

The anchor is only as good as the structure. Connect only to members that meet OSHA anchorage strength, position to minimize free fall and swing, and inspect before every use.

Compliance Standards

OSHA 1926.502 Anchorage

Anchorages for fall arrest must support 5,000 lb per worker attached, or maintain a safety factor of two under a qualified person.

ANSI Z359 Practice

Anchorage connectors follow ANSI Z359 component practice with 5,000 lb rated hardware.

ANSI Z359.2

Kept in service through pre-use checks and documented competent person inspections at least annually.

Typical Applications

General construction fall arrest anchorage.
Steel, concrete, and structural work.
Roofing and elevated maintenance.
Utility and industrial tie-off points.
Temporary anchorage that moves with the crew.
Completing the ABC system with Miller body wear and connectors.

Setup Overview

  1. Inspect the anchor and hardware before use.
  2. Select structure that meets OSHA anchorage strength for fall arrest.
  3. Install the anchor per the instructions for the structure type.
  4. Connect the lanyard or SRL and verify gates lock.
  5. Verify fall clearance and swing fall exposure before working.

Full installation instructions ship with the product.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use and have a competent person inspect at least annually per ANSI Z359.2.

  • Webbing or body: cuts, frays, corrosion, cracks, distortion, or damage.
  • D-rings and hooks: no cracks, corrosion, distortion; gates lock where fitted.
  • Stitching and fasteners: intact and tight.
  • Labels: present and legible.

Retirement triggers: any fall arrest loading, any defect found during inspection, or failure to verify fitness for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this sold as a 2-pack?
Connectors get consumed in pairs across systems, and the 2-pack keeps the order value shipping-efficient. The photo shows one carabiner; the pack contains two.
What does double-action mean?
Opening requires twisting the sleeve and then pressing the gate: two deliberate motions, so contact with structure or webbing cannot open it.
What fits through a 1 inch gate?
Standard D-rings, anchor strap rings, and most fall protection interface hardware. Larger members need the 2 inch 18D.
Where is it used?
Anywhere the system needs a rated connector: SRL-to-anchor, strap-to-strap, and rescue rigging.
Is it rated for fall arrest?
Yes: it meets ANSI and OSHA connector strength and gate requirements.
Steel or aluminum?
Steel for durability and abuse tolerance at anchor level; weight matters less off the body.
How often does it need inspection?
Before each use: gate action, lock function, cracks, corrosion. Competent person inspection annually.
