Super Anchor Safety CRA Series

1090-GBS Bolt-On Loop Top with 5/8 Inch Stud

The Super Anchor 1090-GBS is a cast, hot dip galvanized loop top with a 1-3/8 inch inside diameter loop and a grade 5, 5/8 x 2 inch stud bolt with lock nut and washer. It threads a 10,000 lb tensile rated loop top onto threaded-top anchors and bolts through the center hole of the Super Anchor 1207 standing seam plate per Fig. 6 of the SSCA manual.

What is included: the cast loop top with its grade 5 stud bolt, lock nut, and washer; the 1207 plate and cable are sold separately. At about 1 lb, the 1090-GBS is the lightest way to put a CRA style loop top where you need one: on a threaded-top anchor or centered on a 1207 plate for non-penetrating standing seam roof anchorage. The loop accepts snaphooks, carabiners, and SAS HLL end anchor components with 3,600 lb gate strengths per the CRA manual connector specifications.

Who Needs This Product

The 1090-GBS is for crews that need a compliant loop top connection point on hardware that ships without one. Metal roofing contractors bolt it through the center hole of the 1207 standing seam plate to create a loop top anchor that clamps to the seams without penetrating the roof, and it also threads onto Super Anchor threaded-top anchors. The loop serves a single worker at up to 340 lb including tools for fall arrest, work positioning, and fall restraint with a maximum 6 ft free fall, with the anchorage itself required to support 5,000 lb or 2 times the intended load per OSHA 1910.140. Every worker wears a full body harness with components meeting current OSHA, ANSI, or CSA standards.

Features

10,000 lb cast loop

The cast loop top is rated to 10,000 lb minimum tensile strength per the CRA documentation, with a 1-3/8 inch inside diameter opening.

Grade 5 stud with hardware

A 5/8 x 2 inch grade 5 stud bolt with lock nut and washer installs with common hand tools.

Fits the 1207 center hole

Bolts through the center hole of the 1207 standing seam plate per Fig. 6 of the SSCA manual for non-penetrating metal roof anchorage.

Threaded-top anchor upgrade

Threads onto Super Anchor threaded-top anchors to convert them to loop top service.

Hot dip galvanized

HDG coating protects the casting; connector abrasion wear cleans up with 2 coats of cold zinc spray per the CRA manual.

Compatible connectors

Accepts snaphooks, carabiners, and SAS HLL end anchor components with 3,600 lb gate strengths; connectors must rotate freely and never share the loop.

The loop top is only as strong as what it bolts to. The 1090-GBS itself carries a 10,000 lb tensile rating, but the assembled anchor is limited by the anchorage below it, which must support 5,000 lb or 2 times the intended fall protection load per OSHA 1910.140. Install the stud with the lock nut and washer fully engaged, never attach two connectors to one loop, and load the loop only in the directions specified by the CRA manual.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.18-17 Type A/T

Component of CRA anchor systems verified by Intertek lab reports per the 01-2023 CRA manual.

Installation Overview

Fig. 6 of the SSCA manual and the CRA manual loop top figures cover the details. The essentials:

  1. Confirm the anchorage below the loop supports 5,000 lb or 2 times the intended fall protection load per OSHA 1910.140.
  2. For standing seam service, install the 1207 plate on the seams per the SSCA manual, then bolt the 1090-GBS through the plate center hole.
  3. Thread the 5/8 x 2 inch grade 5 stud into a threaded-top anchor, or through the plate, with the washer seated and the lock nut fully engaged.
  4. Connect one snaphook or carabiner with a 3,600 lb gate strength; the connector must rotate freely on the loop.
  5. Never attach two connectors to one loop top, and apply loads only in the directions the CRA manual specifies.
  6. Inspect the loop, stud, lock nut, and the supporting anchorage before each use.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before installation and each use, with documented annual inspections of the assembled anchorage. Remove the loop top from service when any of the following apply:

  • The loop is bent, cracked, gouged, or deformed.
  • The stud, lock nut, or washer is damaged, loose, or missing.
  • Threads are stripped or corroded.
  • Rust that does not clean up with 2 coats of cold zinc spray.
  • A connector does not rotate freely on the loop.
  • The loop was subjected to a free fall or the supporting anchorage is damaged.

Tag anchors removed from service to prevent further use until inspected by a qualified or competent person.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the 1090-GBS mount to?
Two documented mounts: Super Anchor threaded-top anchors, and the center hole of the 1207 standing seam plate per Fig. 6 of the SSCA manual. Either way the supporting anchorage must hold 5,000 lb or 2 times the intended load per OSHA 1910.140. A correct installation is critical, so confirm the setup matches the manufacturer instructions before any worker ties off.
How strong is the loop?
The cast loop top is rated to 10,000 lb minimum tensile strength per the CRA loop top documentation. The assembled anchor is limited by the anchorage the stud bolts into. See the Technical Specifications on this page for the exact materials, dimensions, and ratings. Always inspect the product before each use and take it out of service if you notice any damage, deformation, or excessive wear.
What hardware is included?
The cast HDG loop with a grade 5, 5/8 x 2 inch stud bolt, lock nut, and washer. It installs with common hand tools; seat the washer and fully engage the lock nut. A correct installation is critical, so confirm the setup matches the manufacturer instructions before any worker ties off.
What connectors can I clip to it?
Snaphooks, carabiners, and SAS HLL end anchor components with 3,600 lb gate strengths that meet current ANSI, OSHA, or CSA standards. The connector must rotate freely, and two connectors must never share one loop. Confirm each component in the system is compatible and rated for the intended use before connecting to it.
Does it make the 1207 plate a tie-off anchor?
Yes. Bolted through the 1207 center hole, the assembly becomes a loop top anchor that clamps to standing seam ribs without penetrating the roof, serving one worker at up to 340 lb including tools within the plate system ratings. Pair it only with connectors and equipment that are approved for use together so the complete system performs as designed.
How heavy is it?
About 1 lb. It fits in a pouch, which makes it an easy carry-along for crews that move between threaded-top anchors and standing seam plates. Confirm the surface, slope, and conditions at your work area match the intended application before installation. If you have any doubt about the correct setup, consult a qualified person or the manufacturer instructions before putting the system into service.
What maintenance does the galvanized coating need?
Connector abrasion can wear the HDG coating and show red rust. Remove the rust and apply 2 coats of cold zinc spray per the CRA manual; retire the loop if rust keeps returning or the casting is damaged. Never modify or repair the product in the field, since altering it can compromise its ability to arrest a fall.
