1028 Swivel-D Anchor with 360 Degree D-Ring

The Super Anchor 1028 Swivel-D is a fully articulating PPE anchor point built around a forged, zinc plated steel D-ring with a 2.0 inch inside diameter, a 304 stainless steel shackle, and stainless bushings. The D-ring rotates 360 degrees and flips 180 degrees, so the anchor loads correctly no matter which direction the work takes you. Minimum tensile strength is 5,000 lb with a 3,600 lb proof load, and every anchor ships with a factory 5/8 inch attachment bolt, lock nut, and PID inspection label.

One anchor bolts to structural steel, wood beams, 2x framing, metal decking, concrete, and Super Anchor CRA risers, D-Plates, wood purlin anchors, and the 1207 standing seam plate, which makes it the universal connection point across the Super Anchor commercial line. Compliant with ANSI Z359.18-17 Type A and OSHA 1926.502.

Who Needs This Product

The 1028 Swivel-D is the anchorage connector for one worker at up to 310 lb including tools and equipment, used for fall arrest and work positioning. It is the PPE attachment point of the system: each worker still wears a full body harness connected by an energy-absorbing lanyard, a lifeline with a rope grab, or an SRL that complies with current OSHA, ANSI, or CSA standards. Crews that already run Super Anchor CRA risers, D-Plates, or 1207 standing seam plates use the Swivel-D as the common tie-off point across all of them, and it also serves as an end anchorage in engineered horizontal lifeline systems with anchors spaced a maximum of 20 ft apart.

Features

Fully articulating D-ring

The forged D-ring rotates 360 degrees and flips 180 degrees on stainless bushings, so the anchor aligns to the load direction instead of side-loading.

Bolts to nearly any structure

Structural steel from 1/4 inch, 3/4 inch plywood, wood beams, 2x framing, Type B 22 gauge metal decking, and 2,000 PSI concrete with a 5/8 inch expansion bolt.

Attaches across the Super Anchor line

Bolts directly to CRA threaded top risers, the D-Plate anchor, the 2x wood purlin anchor, and the 1207 standing seam anchor plate.

Permanent or temporary

Install it as a permanent fixture on the structure or move it job to job. Interior or exterior use.

Factory bolt and label included

Ships with a certified 5/8 inch attachment bolt and lock nut plus a PID inspection label, retail packaged.

Two bushing sizes

The standard 5/8 inch bushing fits Super Anchor hardware and structural bolting; the 3/8 inch bushing version fits 3/8 inch bolt applications.

Work PositioningArticulating anchor for positioning on walls and columns.

Installation Overview

Full procedures and the substrate bolt length table are in the instruction manual linked below. The essentials:

  1. Confirm the structure supports 5,000 lb or 2 times the intended load, and locate steel bolt holes a minimum of 1 inch on center from any edge.
  2. Select the certified bolt length for the substrate from Table 1.0 of the manual (2.0 inch for structural steel and standing seam, 2-1/2 inch for 3/4 inch plywood, 4.0 inch for 2x4 purlins, job specified for beams and concrete).
  3. Install with a flat washer where specified, and torque so the bolt thread penetrates the lock nut a minimum of 1/8 inch.
  4. On the 1207 standing seam plate, bolt through the plate center hole with the Super Anchor supplied bolt; on Z-purlins and metal panels use the 1028-BP1 base plate with caulked, waterproofed connections.
  5. Confirm the D-ring rotates freely and the shackle plate is installed flat side down before use.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before installation and each use, and keep a record of annual inspections by a qualified or competent person. Remove the anchor from service when any of the following apply:

  • The D-ring does not rotate easily after cleaning and inspection of the bushing assembly.
  • Deformation, cracks, or bends are present in the D-ring or shackle.
  • Rust is present that does not clean up with cold zinc coating.
  • Lock nut is loose or minimum thread penetration is not visible on direct bolted installations.
  • The PID label is missing and cannot be replaced.
  • The anchor has been subjected to a fall or other impact force.

Anchors removed from service must be disposed of in a way that prevents further use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the 1028 Swivel-D work with the 1207 standing seam plate?
Yes. The Swivel-D bolts through the 5/8 inch center hole of the 1207 SSCA base plate with the Super Anchor supplied attachment bolt and lock nut, which makes it the standard PPE anchor for standing seam installations. The instruction manual shows the assembly in Fig. 14.
What structures can I bolt the Swivel-D to?
Structural steel 1/4 inch and thicker, 3/4 inch plywood, wood beams, 2x framing with a plywood backer, Type B metal decking of 22 gauge or thicker, Z-purlins with the 1028-BP1 base plate, and concrete of 2,000 PSI minimum with a 5/8 inch expansion bolt in a slab at least 4 inches deep. It also bolts to Super Anchor CRA threaded top risers, D-Plates, and wood purlin anchors.
What is the difference between the 5/8 inch and 3/8 inch bushing versions?
The standard 1028 uses a 5/8 inch bushing and attachment bolt, which fits Super Anchor hardware and most structural applications. The 1028-3.8 version includes a 3/8 inch reducer bushing with a 3/8 x 1-1/4 inch stainless bolt, serrated flange nut, and flat washer for 3/8 inch bolt applications such as the parapet wall anchor.
How strong is the Swivel-D anchor?
The forged D-ring has a 5,000 lb minimum tensile strength and every anchor is factory proof loaded to 3,600 lb. The structure it attaches to must support 5,000 lb or 2 times the intended fall protection load per OSHA 1910.140, for example a 1,800 lb maximum arrest force with an energy absorber doubled to 3,600 lb of attachment point strength.
Can I use the Swivel-D for a horizontal lifeline?
Yes, the Swivel-D serves as an anchor point for horizontal lifelines and SRLs, with anchor locations determined by the job specific fall protection plan and a maximum spacing of 20 ft between anchors. HLL use on standing seam roofs pairs it with 1207 plates rigged to the CRA Horizontal Lifeline Rigging Manual.
Is the Swivel-D permanent or temporary?
Both. It installs as a permanent fixture on steel, wood, or concrete, or moves job to job as a temporary anchor, indoors or out. Permanent metal roof installations use caulked and thread-sealed connections per the manual to prevent water penetration.
What inspections does the Swivel-D require?
Inspect prior to installation and before each use to confirm the anchor is free of defects and the correct fasteners were used, and maintain a record of annual inspections by a qualified or competent person. Check that the D-ring rotates freely, the lock nut is tight with 1/8 inch thread penetration, and the PID label is legible.
