Super Anchor D-Minus Retro-Flash Permanent Roof Anchor for Existing Roofs

The Super Anchor D-Minus Retro-Flash system mounts a permanent roof anchor directly over an existing asphalt shingle roof without removing any shingles. The Retro-Flash is a 20 gauge metal flashing that slips under the course of roofing just above the anchor and is held in place by the roofing material and caulking. It is ideal for older roofs with brittle shingles where a tear off would be a problem.

The D-Minus anchor mounts to the truss top chord, or install a 3/4 inch backer board under the current sheeting so no truss is needed. The kit includes the anchor, Retro-Flash, a butyl strip for a waterproof seal, a backer board, and stainless steel fasteners.

This product is sold as a 3-pack.

Who Needs This Product

The D-Minus Retro-Flash system is a permanent fall arrest anchor for roofers and remodelers who need to add a compliant tie-off to an existing asphalt, wood, or metal roof without removing roofing. It suits re-roof and retrofit work on brittle older roofs. Complete the system with a full-body harness, a connecting device, and a competent-person layout.

Features

Installs over existing roofing

Mounts directly over asphalt shingles with no shingle removal required.

Retro-Flash weather protection

A 20 gauge metal flashing slips under the roofing course above the anchor and is held by the roofing and caulking.

Backer board option

Install a 3/4 inch backer board under the sheeting to anchor without hitting a truss.

Butyl waterproof seal

The kit includes a butyl strip for a waterproof seal at the anchor.

Low profile, paintable

The design blends into the roofing and can be painted to match.

Complete retrofit kit

The kit ships with the anchor, Retro-Flash, butyl seal, backer board, and stainless steel fasteners.

This anchor is a fall arrest anchorage, not a complete system. Install per the instruction manual onto structure capable of the load, use a full-body harness with a connecting device rated for a 3,600 lb gate, and confirm fall clearance. Run the Fall Protection Calculator below before you tie off.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to remove shingles to install it?
No. The D-Minus mounts over the existing roofing, and the Retro-Flash slips under the course of roofing above the anchor. Verify that the mounting surface is sound and that every fastener is fully seated before the anchor is put into service. Only trained workers should select, install, and use fall protection equipment for its intended application.
Does the Retro-Flash installation need caulking?
Yes. The installation uses caulking along with the included butyl strip to hold the Retro-Flash under the roofing course and create a waterproof seal, per the instruction manual. Follow the recommended fastener pattern and placement so the connection is secure, and re-check the installation before you rely on it for fall arrest.
Can I install it without hitting a truss?
Yes. Install the included 3/4 inch backer board under the sheeting and fasten the anchor to it. Follow the recommended fastener pattern and placement so the connection is secure, and re-check the installation before you rely on it for fall arrest. Before every use, confirm the product is compatible with the rest of your fall protection system and that you have adequate fall clearance below the work area.
What is included in the kit?
The anchor, Retro-Flash, butyl flashing strip, backer board, and stainless steel fasteners. Verify that the mounting surface is sound and that every fastener is fully seated before the anchor is put into service. Store it in a clean, dry place away from heat and chemicals to help preserve its condition between uses.
What roofs does it work on?
Asphalt, wood, and metal roofs, per the instruction manual. Confirm the surface, slope, and conditions at your work area match the intended application before installation. Only trained workers should select, install, and use fall protection equipment for its intended application. Always inspect the product before each use and take it out of service if you notice any damage, deformation, or excessive wear.
What connectors can I use?
ANSI or CSA compliant snap hooks and carabiners with a 3,600 lb gate strength. Pair it only with connectors and equipment that are approved for use together so the complete system performs as designed. A qualified person should verify that the installation and the overall system meet the requirements of your specific job site.
Do I need a harness with this anchor?
Yes. The anchor is an anchorage point only and must be paired with a full-body harness and a connecting device. Confirm each component in the system is compatible and rated for the intended use before connecting to it. Store it in a clean, dry place away from heat and chemicals to help preserve its condition between uses.

Adding an Anchor to an Existing Roof?

Retrofitting a compliant tie-off depends on the roof type, its age, and the framing below. Confirm your roof with us and we will help match the right D-Minus system and PPE.
