Tie Down TranzPorter TP400 Ladder Hoist Kit, 400 lb Capacity, Your Choice of Power Base
The TranzPorter TP400 is Tie Down's 400 lb ladder hoist, the machine roofers call a laddervator or shingle lift. A collapsible aluminum carriage rides a 28 ft aluminum track on cam followers, the power base drives the cable drum, and a foot pedal and handle brake give the ground worker full control of the load. Shingles, plywood, felt, insulation and rolled goods ride up the track instead of up the ladder on someone's shoulder.
Pick the power base that fits your sites: the Lifan gas engine is the economical choice, the Honda 4 HP gas engine is the long life choice, and the plug-in electric motor is the quiet choice for sites with power and the only one approved where ventilation is limited. Every kit ships with the 4 ft aluminum base track, three 8 ft track sections with splice plates and the collapsible carriage platform for a 28 ft reach; add track and the telescoping brace to reach 44 ft. Made in the USA.

The finance payment shown is a sample, not an offer. Financing is provided through APPROVE and its lender network, subject to credit approval, at a 60 month term; your offered rate and term may differ. Financing is available on single items priced at 1,500 dollars and up, including smaller items bundled with the unit.

400 lb ladder hoist kit with 4 ft base, three 8 ft track sections and collapsible carriage, 28 ft reach.Power base

Adds 8 ft of reach per section; two sections take the 28 ft kit to 44 ft. Splice plates included.

Required on any TranzPorter track assembly over 28 ft; cross ties to the rungs per the manual chart.

Pin-locks to the track and holds it off the gutter and fascia; steadies the top of the track.
Everything in the package ships together on one pallet by LTL freight. The fixed freight on the hoist shown under Shipping above covers the kit to a commercial address in the continental US and is added at checkout. An added 8 ft track section carries its own fixed freight at checkout because it is an oversize piece; the brace and standoff ship UPS. Call 863-703-4522 if you would like one combined delivered price for the whole package. Alaska, Hawaii and Canadian orders have additional shipping fees based on carrier cost at the time of order.
Who Needs This Product
The TP400 is for roofing contractors who are done sending shingles up the ladder one bundle at a time. A two person crew, one at the base and one at the eave, moves a full pallet of materials to the roof in a fraction of the time with no one carrying 80 lb bundles up a ladder, which is where most roofing back and ladder injuries happen. The 400 lb capacity moves five or six bundles of architectural shingles, or full sheets of plywood and insulation, per trip. The crew still needs roof edge fall protection for the worker unloading at the eave.
Features
400 lb lifting capacity
Rated to lift 400 lb per trip with a 380 lb working load, so bundles, plywood and rolled goods go up in a few runs instead of a few hours.
Lifan gas engine
The economical gas option. Gear reduction drive, shipped pre-oiled, with a low oil alarm that stalls the engine before it damages itself. Runs anywhere without power.
Honda 4 HP gas engine
The premium gas option with a 6 to 1 reduction sheave, the reputation for easy starting and the longest service life in the line, backed by Honda's own engine warranty.
Plug-in electric motor
No fuel, no fumes, no engine maintenance, and the only TranzPorter power base approved where ventilation is limited. Quiet enough for tight residential streets; needs power at the site.
Collapsible carriage with cam followers
The aluminum deck and flap fold for transport and the cam followers track straight on the rails. Collapsible plywood brackets, tie down slots and a pin-in rolled goods bracket hold odd loads.
28 ft kit, 44 ft reach
The 4 ft base plus three 8 ft aluminum sections reach a 28 ft eave. Add 4 ft or 8 ft sections (and the telescoping brace above 28 ft) for a 44 ft maximum.
Stay 10 ft from power lines. Keep the track at least 10 ft clear of all overhead wires and equipment, or have the utility de-energize and ground them before raising it. Set the base at the distance the chart requires for the roof height, tie the top bracket to the roof, and never climb the track; it is a hoist, not a ladder. Track over 28 ft needs the telescoping brace (60005). Gas models are for outdoor use only.
Compliance Standards
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.552
Material hoists, personnel hoists and elevators; the Tie Down manual is the operating instruction OSHA requires on site.
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.416 and 1926.1408
Electrical safety and power line clearance: keep the track at least 10 ft from overhead lines or have the utility de-energize them.
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.501
Roof workers unloading at the eave still need fall protection; the hoist removes the ladder trips, not the edge.
Made in the USA
Tie Down builds the TranzPorter line in Georgia with a 90 day limited warranty on the hoist and the engine maker's own warranty on Honda and Lifan engines.
Typical Applications
How to Use
Follow the Tie Down instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.
- Pick the site. Set the base on firm, level ground with the track at least 10 ft from any overhead power line, using the base-to-building chart in the manual for the roof height.
- Assemble the track. Pin the 4 ft base to the 8 ft sections on the ground with the carriage on the track, then raise the assembly with two people and tie the top bracket to the roof with the ladder and hoist anchor kit.
- Mount the power base. Hang the engine or motor base on the base track, fit the belt under the guard, and reeve the cable through the top cap and carriage per the manual.
- Load and lift. Place bundles on the platform against the flap, strap rolled goods to the bracket, and run the carriage with the foot pedal while a second worker unloads at the eave.
- Shut down. Lower the empty carriage, stop the engine or unplug the motor, and let it cool before moving the hoist.
Inspection and Retirement
Inspect before each use, with a documented competent person inspection at least annually. Remove the system from service for any of the conditions below.
- Cable: broken wires, kinks, corrosion or a frayed end at the carriage.
- Brake and foot pedal: a brake that will not hold the loaded carriage, worn brake strap or linkage.
- Track sections and splice plates: bent rails, cracked welds, missing pins or hardware.
- Carriage and cam followers: rollers that bind, a deck or flap that is cracked or bent.
- Belt, sheaves and engine or motor: a worn belt, loose sheave, oil level, damaged cord on the electric model.
Remove the system from service immediately after any fall arrest event and have it inspected by a competent person before it returns to use.
