How to Use the TACBU

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check all load-bearing parts, moving parts, and the line before each use.
  2. Set up per the manual. Install and rig exactly as the Frontline manual specifies.
  3. Rig the system. Run the retrieval and/or fall arrest lines through the correct points.
  4. Connect the worker. Attach the harness per the rescue plan.
  5. Function-test. Test retrieval and confirm the plan with the attendant before entry.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Pull the equipment from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Visual: deformation, cracks, corrosion, or damaged welds on load-bearing parts.
  • Moving parts: pulleys, swivels, winch drum, and locks operate freely and lock positively.
  • Line/cable: no broken wires, kinks, fraying, or corrosion; spools cleanly.
  • Connectors and fasteners: present, correct, and fully engaged per the manual.
  • Labels and markings: present and legible.

Retire the equipment immediately after any fall arrest event or if any inspection point fails. Destroy retired equipment so it cannot return to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Frontline TACBU bracket?
The TACBU is the universal mounting bracket that attaches a 3-way retrieval SRL block to a MEGApod tripod leg. It ships with a compatible bracket pre-assembled so the retrieval block installs fast, and a detent-pin arrangement makes leg mounting tool-free. It is machined from alloy steel with an ED-coated finish and weighs 10.5 lb.
What does the TACBU do?
It is the link between the MEGApod frame and the retrieval block, the part that turns a tripod into a non-entry rescue system. Without a bracket to carry the 3-way SRL on the leg, the retrieval block has nowhere to mount.
How does it mount to the tripod?
It mounts on a MEGApod tripod leg using a detent-pin arrangement, so installation and removal are tool-free. Confirm the detent pins are fully engaged before loading the retrieval block.
What is the TACBU compatible with?
It is built for the Frontline MEGApod tripods and the 3-way retrieval SRL blocks that ride on them. It comes with a pre-assembled compatible bracket for the retrieval device.
What is it made of and how much does it weigh?
It is machined from alloy steel with an ED-coated finish for corrosion resistance and weighs 10.5 lb. Inspect it for deformation, corrosion, and secure pins before each use.
Do the MEGApod kits already include a bracket?
The complete MEGApod packages include a universal bracket for the retrieval block. The TACBU is offered separately to add a retrieval mount to a tripod or replace a bracket in the field.
Is the TACBU OSHA compliant?
As a component of the retrieval system, it conforms to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 and ANSI Z359 when used within a properly rigged MEGApod confined-space setup.
