Who Needs This Product

Cable SRLs earn their place where webbing suffers: sparks, grinding, hot work, and abrasive environments that chew synthetic lifelines. The Velocity line covers short-radius overhead work at three working lengths; anchor at or above the dorsal D-ring per the Class 1 rating and check the clearance chart on the housing label.

Features

Swivel top connection point

Swivels 360 degrees to ensure the device remains in the best orientation during use and also helps prevent lifeline snagging or tangling. Double locking carabiner included

Thermoplastic housing

Super lightweight and durable for long-lasting use in the toughest applications

Rubber lifeline stopper

Doubles as a convenient hand-grip

Steel cable lifeline

Resists cuts and abrasions

Fall-indicating swivel snap hook

Shows if SRL has been exposed to an impact

Jobsite-grade construction

Built with the materials and finish quality Guardian applies across its height safety line.

Class rating decides the anchor location. Class 1 SRLs anchor at or above the dorsal D-ring only; Class 2 SRLs are additionally rated for at-foot anchorage and leading edge exposure per ANSI Z359.14-2021. Check the fall clearance chart on the device label for your anchor height before work begins.

Use Overview

Use must follow the Guardian SRL instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect first. Check the housing, lifeline, load indicator, and hooks before every use.
  2. Test retraction. Pull the line and let it retract under control; confirm smooth payout and positive lock when jerked sharply.
  3. Anchor per class. Class 1 devices anchor at or above the dorsal D-ring; Class 2 devices may anchor at foot level per the manual.
  4. Connect the worker. Attach the lifeline hook to the harness per the manual and confirm the gate locks.
  5. Check clearance. Verify fall clearance using the chart on the label for your anchor height.
  6. Work in line. Stay in line with the anchor to minimize swing fall exposure.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before every use, and have a competent person perform a documented inspection at least every six months under ANSI Z359.2 practice. Remove the SRL from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Lifeline: cuts, fraying, kinks, broken wires, or contamination along the full working length.
  • Retraction: hesitation, slack line, or failure to lock under a sharp pull.
  • Load indicator: any deployment showing.
  • Housing and swivel: cracks, deformation, corrosion, or binding.
  • Hooks: cracks, deformation, or gates that do not close and lock automatically.

Retirement triggers: any fall arrest event, a showing load indicator, retraction or locking failure, or any condition where the inspector cannot positively verify the device is fit for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which length and hook configuration do I need?
The 10 ft (10950X) suits tight overhead work with an HS snap hook; the 16 ft (42000) adds a swivel top hook with carabiner for tangle-free hanging; the 20 ft (42001) covers the largest working radius with a standard snap hook. All three are Class 1 overhead devices.
Why choose cable over web lifeline?
Galvanized wire rope shrugs off sparks, slag, and abrasion that retire webbing SRLs, the standard choice for steel trades and hot work. The tradeoff is weight, which the compact Velocity housing keeps manageable.
Where can a Class 1 SRL anchor?
At or above the dorsal D-ring only, per ANSI Z359.14-2021. Foot-level and leading edge anchorage require a Class 2 device like the Velocity-E or CR3-Edge.
What options does the Guardian Velocity Class 1 Cable SRL come in?
Stocked options: 10 ft, HS snap hook (10950X); 16 ft, swivel hook with carabiner (42000); 20 ft, snap hook (42001). Every option carries the same Guardian lifetime warranty and ships in 1 business day.
Which standards does this product meet?
It is compliant with ANSI Z359.14-2021, OSHA 1910.140, OSHA 1926.505 when used within a complete, competent-person verified fall protection system, and Guardian products are tested in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
What is the rated capacity?
The rated worker capacity is 100-420 lbs., including all clothing, tools, and equipment carried by the worker.
When should this product be retired?
Retire it after any fall event, any failed inspection item, or whenever an inspector cannot positively verify it is fit for service. The inspection criteria in the linked documentation define the pass-fail conditions.
