Manual Stainless Steel Rope Grab

The 8174 rides the vertical lifeline so the worker does not manage it: the trailing design follows the climb hands-free on 5/8 or 3/4 inch rope, and the cam locks onto the line the instant a fall loads it. Stainless steel construction keeps it working through weather and years.

Built for vertical lifeline systems on roofs, towers, and suspended work, compatible with standard fall protection components.

Who Needs This Product

Rope grabs make vertical lifelines practical: the climber moves, the grab follows, and the lock happens faster than a human could react. Stainless construction earns its keep on roofing crews and window rigs where the grab lives outdoors on a wet rope.

Features

Trailing Action

The grab follows the worker up and down the line without hand tending.

Instant Cam Lock

Fall loading cams the grab onto the rope in inches.

Two Rope Sizes

Fits both 5/8 and 3/4 inch lifelines, covering standard vertical systems.

Stainless Steel

Corrosion-proof hardware for outdoor and marine-adjacent service.

Manual Positioning

Park it on the line when the task calls for a fixed grab point.

Standard Interface

Connects to the harness with a compliant lanyard per the system design.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a trailing rope grab work?
It rides freely up and down the lifeline as the worker climbs, then cams onto the rope instantly under fall loading. No hand tending, no repositioning stops.
What rope does it fit?
5/8 and 3/4 inch diameter lifelines, including the Miller 300L and 195R-2 ropes we stock.
How does it connect to the worker?
Through a short lanyard or connector to the harness front or dorsal ring, per the vertical system design.
Can it be fixed in place?
Yes: the manual mode parks the grab at a set point on the line for positioning-style tasks.
Why stainless steel?
Vertical lifelines live outdoors; stainless keeps the cam action smooth through rain, salt, and seasons.
What systems use it?
Roofing lifelines, tower climbs, suspended access backups, and any vertical rope system.
How often does it need inspection?
Before each use: cam action, springs, corrosion, wear. Competent person inspection annually.
