Falcon+ Edge Self-Retracting Device with Galvanized Cable

The Falcon+ Edge is the full-size leading edge SRL: galvanized steel cable rated for sharp edges with a radius as small as 0.005 in, an integrated ballistic nylon shock absorber pack at the worker end, and certification for anchoring anywhere from overhead down to foot level.

Rated to 420 lb per OSHA and meeting OSHA, ANSI, and CSA standards, the Falcon+ Edge covers horizontal, vertical, overhead, and foot-level work from one unit. Dual swivels at the housing and snap hook keep the cable running true.

Who Needs This Product

The Falcon+ Edge is for crews whose anchor is behind them and whose edge is sharp: deck installation, precast, formwork, and structural steel where the cable will load over an edge in a fall. The engineered retraction tension does not drag on the worker, and the absorber pack manages the higher forces of foot-level arrest.

Features

Sharp Edge Rating

Tested for leading edge arrest over an edge radius as small as 0.005 in, the load case that destroys standard lifelines.

Foot-Level to Overhead

One unit covers every anchor height on the job, from overhead beams down to anchors at the walking surface.

Ballistic Nylon Absorber

The integrated shock absorber pack at the worker end manages arrest forces in edge and foot-level falls.

Engineered Retraction

Spring tension is tuned not to pull or drag on the worker, cutting fatigue over a full shift.

Dual Swivels

Swivels at the housing top and snap hook stop cable twist and give leverage when connecting to the anchor.

Galvanized Steel Cable

The cable takes abrasion and edge contact that would saw through webbing devices.

Foot-level tie-off demands more clearance. Edge and foot-level arrest produce longer free fall and deeper deceleration than overhead tie-off. Run the clearance numbers from the spec sheet for your anchor height before the first connection.

Compliance Standards

ANSI Z359.14

Certified as a self-retracting device for leading edge use, covering foot-level anchorage and arrest over a sharp edge.

OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140

Meets OSHA connecting device requirements for personal fall arrest systems, rated to 420 lb per OSHA.

CSA

Listed by the manufacturer as meeting CSA self-retracting device standards for Canadian jobsites.

Sharp Edge Testing

Rated for edges with a radius of 0.005 in (0.13 mm) or larger, the sharpest edge classification in common use.

Typical Applications

Steel and composite deck installation with foot-level anchors.
Precast, tilt-up, and formwork edges.
Bridge and parking structure work.
Structural steel erection with beam anchors behind the worker.
Roof edge work when paired with a compliant anchor.
Any fall path that crosses a sharp unprotected edge.

Setup Overview

  1. Inspect the housing, cable, load indicator, and connectors before use.
  2. Mount the unit to an overhead anchorage rated for fall arrest using the top swivel connector.
  3. Connect the lifeline snap hook to the harness dorsal D-ring and verify the gate locks.
  4. Check retraction and brake lock-up with a sharp pull before committing to the system.
  5. Verify fall clearance below the work level and keep the lifeline clear of edges not rated for contact.

Full use instructions and clearance tables ship with the unit.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect the unit before each use, and have a competent person inspect it on a documented schedule per ANSI Z359.14 and the manual.

  • Housing: cracks, distortion, loose fasteners, or a seized swivel.
  • Cable: pay it out fully and check for kinks, birdcaging, broken wires, and corrosion.
  • Load indicator and absorber: any deployment means immediate removal from service.
  • Connectors: gates close and lock; no cracks, corrosion, or distortion.
  • Retraction and brake: smooth retraction and a positive lock on a sharp pull.

Retirement triggers: any fall arrest event, deployed indicator or absorber, cable damage, or any failed inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Falcon+ Edge different from a standard cable SRL?
It is engineered for the two conditions standard SRLs exclude: anchoring at foot level and arresting a fall over a sharp edge. The cable, absorber pack, and certification all address those load cases specifically.
How sharp an edge is it rated for?
The unit is rated for leading edges with a radius of 0.005 in (0.13 mm) or larger, which covers steel deck edges, formwork, and structural members.
Why is there an absorber pack at the worker end?
Foot-level and edge falls generate more energy than overhead arrest. The ballistic nylon pack absorbs that energy at the worker, keeping arrest forces survivable.
Which length should I pick?
Choose the shortest length that covers the work area from the anchor. Extra cable is extra swing fall exposure; 20, 30, and 50 ft ship from stock.
What is the capacity?
420 lb per OSHA including the worker, clothing, and tools. Under ANSI-based programs, follow the capacity on the device label.
Does this unit need annual factory recertification?
No. Factory recertification is not required on this series; keep the unit in service with pre-use checks and documented competent person inspections per the manual.
How often does it need inspection?
Inspect before each use: housing, full cable payout, load indicator, retraction, brake lock-up, and connectors. A competent person inspects it on a documented schedule per ANSI Z359.14 and the manual.
