Tie Down PX3 Rescue Winch System with 100 ft Galvanized Lifeline

The PX3 Rescue Winch System turns the PX3 cart into a rescue station. It mounts to the cart and carries 100 ft of galvanized steel lifeline on a manual winch with a folding handle, so a rescuer can raise a fallen worker back to the roof or lower them to the ground without waiting on the fire department.

A swivel snap hook with an impact indicator connects to the fallen worker, and the whole system stores in its carry bag in the PX3 toolbox. Every PX3 that goes on a roof should have one, because OSHA requires a prompt rescue plan for every worker in fall arrest.

Who Needs This Product

Any crew working from a PX3 cart. OSHA 1926.502(d)(20) requires the employer to provide for prompt rescue of employees in the event of a fall, and a suspended worker can develop suspension trauma in minutes. The rescue winch gives the crew on the roof a way to raise or lower a fallen coworker immediately.

Features

100 ft of lifeline

Enough galvanized cable to lower a worker to grade from most low rise commercial roofs or raise them back to the deck.

Manual winch

Hand cranked with a folding handle, no power needed on the roof.

Impact indicator hook

The swivel snap hook shows when it has taken a fall load so it can be retired.

Mounts to the PX3

Designed to attach to the 72810 cart; the installation video below shows the mount.

Stores on the cart

Comes in a carry bag that fits the PX3 locking toolbox.

Completes the rescue plan

Pair it with a written rescue plan and trained rescuers who tie off to the remaining cart points.

⚠

Rescue equipment, not an anchor. The winch is for raising or lowering a fallen worker; it is not a fall arrest tie-off point. Rescuers tie off to the PX3 fall arrest and restraint points per the manual. Train the crew before the first shift and inspect the hook indicator after any load.

How to Use

Follow the Tie Down instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Mount the winch. Attach to the PX3 per the Tie Down installation guide before work begins.
  2. Pay out the lifeline. Lower the swivel snap hook to the fallen worker and connect it to the harness.
  3. Transfer the load. Crank to take the worker's weight off the arresting device.
  4. Raise or lower. Bring the worker back to the deck or down to grade per the rescue plan.
  5. Retire after a fall. Check the impact indicator and remove loaded components from service.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent person inspection at least annually. Remove the system from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Lifeline: broken wires, kinks, corrosion, birdcaging.
  • Winch and handle: a drum or brake that slips, a handle that will not fold or lock.
  • Swivel snap hook: a tripped impact indicator, bent gate, gate that will not lock.
  • Mount hardware: cracks, bends or missing pins.
  • Bag and labels: missing or illegible labels.

Remove the system from service immediately after any fall arrest event and have it inspected by a competent person before it returns to use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the winch fit the PX5?
No. Order the PX5 Rescue Winch Assembly (72831) for the PX5 Original and PX5 Sentinel. The 72819 is built for the PX3 mount.
Is a rescue winch required?
OSHA requires a prompt rescue plan for workers in fall arrest. The winch is the simplest way to meet that on a PX3 roof, since the crew on the roof can perform the rescue.
How long is the lifeline?
100 ft of galvanized steel cable, enough to lower a worker to grade from most low rise roofs or raise them back to the deck.
Can rescuers tie off while using the winch?
Yes. Rescuers tie off to the remaining PX3 fall arrest and restraint points; the number allowed is three minus the number of fallen workers per the PX3 manual.
What does the impact indicator do?
The swivel snap hook shows when it has taken a fall load, so a loaded hook is retired instead of reused.
Does it come with a bag?
Yes, a carry bag that fits in the PX3 locking toolbox.
Can I add it to a PX3 purchase?
Yes. Add it to your cart with the PX3 and we ship them together; financing covers the bundle.
