TRR38 Roller Trolley for Securail Rigid Rail Systems

The TRR38 is the climber's connection to a Securail rigid rail ladder system. Rollers carry it perfectly with the climber up and down the rail, through the whole system, with no snags and no manual repositioning - and the instant a fall starts, it locks on the rail. An anti-inversion mechanism means it cannot be mounted upside down.

Anodized aluminum and AISI 304 stainless steel, with an integrated energy absorber and a high strength ANSI-rated carabiner. User capacity 110 to 330 lb, minimum breaking strength 3,330 lb, connector strength 5,395 lb. Conforms to ANSI A14.3 and EN 353-1:2017 and aligns with OSHA 1910.29. Built for the Frontline VLRS Securail Pro rail.

Who Needs This Product

This product is a guided fall arrester for rigid rail - the moving link between a climber's harness and a Securail system. The rail (VLRS, sold separately) is the anchorage; the harness is the body support; the TRR38 rides between them and does the catching. Connection on and off happens at the end of each track.

Features

Roller-borne travel

Rollers follow the climber perfectly in both directions - no drag on ascent, no chatter on descent.

Integrated energy absorber

Limits arrest forces on the climber when the trolley locks.

Instant lock

Locks on the rail the moment a fall begins.

Anti-inversion mechanism

The trolley physically cannot be installed upside down - one failure mode designed out.

Safe end connection

Climbers connect and disconnect at the end of each track, from a standing position.

ANSI-rated carabiner

High strength swiveling connection to the harness sternal D-ring.

One trolley, one rail. The TRR38 is rated for Frontline Securail rigid rail systems only - never use it on cable or other rails. One climber per trolley, 110 to 330 lbs including tools, connected to the harness sternal D-ring. Do not skip the user instructions.

Compliance Standards

ANSI A14.3

American National Standard for fixed ladder safety systems.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.29

General industry requirements for ladder safety systems on fixed ladders.

EN 353-1:2017

European standard for guided type fall arresters on a rigid anchor line.

Anti-inversion design

Engineering control that eliminates upside-down installation.

Typical Applications

Commercial roofsRoof access ladder climbs on Securail-equipped buildings.
Pylons and towersLattice and electrical tower rail runs.
Wind mastsTurbine and met mast ladder systems.
Industrial hallsFixed interior ladder access.
Confined spacesRail-equipped vault and tank ladders.
Water infrastructureTank and standpipe ladder systems.
Multi-crew sitesA trolley per climber keeps the whole crew connected.
TelecomMonopole rail-system access.

Use Overview

Follow the manufacturer's manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect. Check rollers, lock, absorber indicator, anti-inversion feature, and carabiner before each climb.
  2. Mount at the track end. Insert the trolley at the rail end stop from a safe standing position - the anti-inversion mechanism only allows correct orientation.
  3. Verify lock. Tug-test downward to confirm instant lock-up before climbing.
  4. Connect. Clip the carabiner to the harness frontal (sternal) D-ring.
  5. Climb. The rollers carry the trolley with you in both directions.
  6. Exit. Disconnect only at a track end, from a safe standing position.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every 6 months. Pull the equipment from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Rollers: free-spinning, no flat spots or binding.
  • Body: deformation, cracks, or corrosion on aluminum or stainless parts.
  • Energy absorber: any deployment indication.
  • Carabiner: positive gate lock, no nose wear.
  • Lock function: instant grab when snapped downward on the rail.
  • Markings: legible.

Retirement triggers: any fall arrest on the trolley, a deployed energy absorber, roller or body damage, or any condition where the inspector cannot verify it is fit for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the rated user capacity?
One climber from 110 to 330 lb including clothing and tools. Minimum breaking strength is 3,330 lb with a 5,395 lb connector.
Which standards does this product meet?
The TRR38 conforms to ANSI A14.3 and EN 353-1:2017 (guided type fall arresters on a rigid anchorage line) and aligns with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.29.
Which systems does it work with?
Frontline Securail and Securail Pro rigid rail ladder systems (the VLRS line) only. It is not compatible with cable systems - that is the GLC38 glider's job.
What does the anti-inversion mechanism do?
It makes upside-down installation physically impossible - a classic guided-arrester error designed out of the hardware, so a rushed crew cannot mount it wrong.
What do I need to pair with this trolley to build a complete fall arrest system?
A Securail VLRS rail system installed on the ladder, plus a full body harness with a frontal (sternal) D-ring for each climber. The trolley connects the two.
How often should this trolley be inspected, and when should it be retired?
Inspect before every climb, with a documented competent-person inspection at least every six months. Retire it immediately after any fall arrest, any absorber deployment, or any condition where it cannot be verified as safe.
What is the difference between fall arrest and fall restraint?
Fall arrest catches a worker after a fall happens; fall restraint prevents the worker from reaching the fall hazard in the first place. The TRR38 is a fall arrest device - it locks on the rail the moment a fall starts. For a deeper walkthrough with system examples, read our guide: Fall Arrest vs. Fall Restraint.
