Who Needs This Product

Decking is the twin Class 2 use case: anchor points at the feet, a live leading edge behind the work, and constant transitions. The CR3-E gives each leg the edge rating and absorber the geometry demands, with rebar hooks that skip the anchor strap on compatible steel.

Class rating decides the anchor location. Class 1 SRLs anchor at or above the dorsal D-ring only; Class 2 SRLs are additionally rated for at-foot anchorage and leading edge exposure per ANSI Z359.14-2021. Check the fall clearance chart on the device label for your anchor height before work begins.

Use Overview

Use must follow the Guardian SRL instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect first. Check the housing, lifeline, load indicator, and hooks before every use.
  2. Test retraction. Pull the line and let it retract under control; confirm smooth payout and positive lock when jerked sharply.
  3. Anchor per class. Class 1 devices anchor at or above the dorsal D-ring; Class 2 devices may anchor at foot level per the manual.
  4. Connect the worker. Attach the lifeline hook to the harness per the manual and confirm the gate locks.
  5. Check clearance. Verify fall clearance using the chart on the label for your anchor height.
  6. Work in line. Stay in line with the anchor to minimize swing fall exposure.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before every use, and have a competent person perform a documented inspection at least every six months under ANSI Z359.2 practice. Remove the SRL from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Lifeline: cuts, fraying, kinks, broken wires, or contamination along the full working length.
  • Retraction: hesitation, slack line, or failure to lock under a sharp pull.
  • Load indicator: any deployment showing.
  • Housing and swivel: cracks, deformation, corrosion, or binding.
  • Hooks: cracks, deformation, or gates that do not close and lock automatically.

Retirement triggers: any fall arrest event, a showing load indicator, retraction or locking failure, or any condition where the inspector cannot positively verify the device is fit for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do deck crews need dual Class 2 legs?
Their anchors sit at foot level, the edge is always in play, and 100 percent tie-off requires two legs. Every part of that violates a Class 1 rating; the CR3-E is built for all three at once.
What do the rebar hooks connect to?
Rebar, angle, and deck steel within the throat and loading limits in the manual, loaded along the hook spine.
What clearance applies?
The Class 2 foot-level math: free fall to the edge, absorber deployment, and cable deflection per the chart on the label. Check it against the deck height before the first panel.
Which standards does this product meet?
It is compliant with ANSI Z359.14-2021, OSHA 1910.140, OSHA 1926.502 when used within a complete, competent-person verified fall protection system, and Guardian products are tested in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
What is the rated capacity?
The rated worker capacity is 130-310 lbs., including all clothing, tools, and equipment carried by the worker.
When should this product be retired?
Retire it after any fall event, any failed inspection item, or whenever an inspector cannot positively verify it is fit for service. The inspection criteria in the linked documentation define the pass-fail conditions.
Is documentation available for submittal packages?
Yes. The manufacturer documentation linked on this page covers installation, specifications, and compliance, and every file is hosted on our site for direct download into your submittal package.
