Premium X-Arm Cross Arm Strap with Large and Small D-Rings

The Guardian Premium X-Arm is the workhorse pass-around anchor: heavy webbing that wraps beams, columns, and cross arms, terminating in a large D-ring on one end and a small D-ring on the other. Pass the small ring through the large one, cinch the wrap, and clip in to the small ring, a rated anchorage anywhere compatible structure exists.

Stocked in six lengths from 3 to 20 ft, each rated for one worker under OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.140. Lengths through 10 ft ship as 2-packs; the 20 ft ships as a single.

Who Needs This Product

Cross arm straps are the most-carried anchor in fall protection because structure is everywhere and drilled anchors are not. Match the length to the member you wrap: 3 and 4 ft for joists and small beams, 6 and 8 ft for columns and standard structural steel, 10 and 20 ft for tanks, large columns, and girders. The large-through-small choke keeps the strap snug so it cannot slide down a vertical member.

Installation Overview

Installation must follow the Guardian instruction manual for this anchor. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Inspect first. Check the anchor body, connection point, and hardware before every installation.
  2. Verify the structure. The supporting structure must meet the strength requirements in the instruction manual.
  3. Install per the manual. Follow the substrate, fastener, and orientation requirements exactly; fill every required fastener position.
  4. Verify the connection. Confirm the anchor is fully seated and the connection point is accessible and undamaged.
  5. Connect the system. Attach a compatible connecting device and verify the complete personal fall arrest system with a competent person.
  6. Check clearance. Confirm fall clearance below the work area and minimize swing fall hazards before work begins.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before every use, and have a competent person perform a documented inspection at least every six months under ANSI Z359.2 practice. Remove the anchor from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Cracks, corrosion, or deformation of the body, connection point, or welds.
  • Loose, missing, damaged, or worn hardware and fasteners.
  • Elongation or wear at the D-ring or connection eye.
  • Missing or illegible labels.
  • Any evidence the anchor has arrested a fall.

Retirement triggers: any fall event on the anchor, or any condition where the inspector cannot positively verify it is fit for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose the right length?
Measure the girth of the member you will wrap and add working slack: 3 to 4 ft covers joists and small beams, 6 to 8 ft covers columns and typical structural steel, and 10 to 20 ft handles tanks, girders, and large columns. A strap too long for the member leaves slack that lets the anchor point shift.
How does the choke connection work?
Wrap the strap around the member, pass the small D-ring through the large D-ring, and pull snug. The connecting device clips to the small D-ring. This choked configuration tightens under load and keeps the anchor from sliding.
What is the difference between the Premium X-Arm and the standard cross arm strap?
The Premium X-Arm uses heavier webbing and the large-and-small D-ring combination for choked connections. The standard Guardian cross arm strap uses a pass-through web loop instead of the large D-ring, a lighter and more economical build for the same wrap-anchor job.
What options does the Guardian Premium X-Arm Cross Arm Strap come in?
Stocked options: 3 ft (10785-2PK); 4 ft (10786-2PK); 6 ft (10787-2PK); 8 ft (10788-2PK); 10 ft (10790-2PK); 20 ft (10793). Every option carries the same Guardian lifetime warranty and ships in 1 business day.
Which standards does this product meet?
It is compliant with OSHA 1910.140, OSHA 1926.502, ANSI Z359.18 when used within a complete, competent-person verified fall protection system, and Guardian products are tested in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
What is the rated capacity?
The rated worker capacity is 130-420 lbs., including all clothing, tools, and equipment carried by the worker.
When should this product be retired?
Retire it after any fall event, any failed inspection item, or whenever an inspector cannot positively verify it is fit for service. The inspection criteria in the linked documentation define the pass-fail conditions.
