Tie Down PX2 Hybrid Mobile Fall Protection Cart, Spike or Concrete Anchoring

The PX2 Hybrid is the small crew Penetrator with two ways to hold. On membrane roofs its steel spikes engage the deck under fall load like the PX3 and PX5. On concrete it switches to a concrete attachment, so one cart covers the TPO roof and the concrete deck on the same project.

At 643 lb it anchors three workers on spikes, two in fall arrest and one in restraint, or two workers on concrete, one in fall arrest and one in restraint. It is the entry point to the Tie Down penetrating line for maintenance crews and small contractors who rarely put more than two people at the edge.

Who Needs This Product

The PX2 Hybrid is for building maintenance teams, small roofing and mechanical contractors, and facility owners who need a mobile anchorage for one or two workers in fall arrest and want it to work on both the membrane roof and the concrete deck. Each worker needs a harness, a connecting device sized to the setback, and a rescue plan.

Features

Two anchoring modes

Steel penetrator spikes for TPO, EPDM and built-up roofs, or the concrete attachment for smooth concrete decks. Change modes per the Tie Down instructions.

Three workers on spikes

Two fall arrest and one fall restraint connection on membrane and built-up roofs.

Two workers on concrete

One fall arrest and one restraint when set up with the concrete attachment.

Lighter than the PX5

At 643 lb it is a simpler crane pick than the 1,069 lb Sentinel for crews that do not need seven tie-offs.

Penetrator family hardware

Same red fall arrest connection points, flat-free tires and hoist rings as the rest of the Tie Down cart line.

Ships job site ready

Delivered assembled on a pallet, ready to hoist and roll.

Vendor documentation pending. Capacities and surfaces above are from Tie Down dealer listings. Setback, slope, and surface rules follow the Tie Down PX2 instruction manual shipped with the cart; use the PX3 and PX5 manuals as a guide to the Penetrator family rules until the PX2 manual is posted here. Confirm fall clearance with the calculator below.

Typical Applications

Building maintenanceOne or two workers servicing rooftop equipment.
Small roofing crewsRepairs and small sections on membrane roofs.
Concrete decksParking structures and plaza decks with the concrete attachment.
HVAC serviceUnit swaps with a two person crew.
Property managementA cart that moves between buildings on a pallet.
Mixed surface jobsTPO roof and concrete deck on the same site.

How to Use

Follow the Tie Down instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.

  1. Choose the mode. Spikes for membrane and built-up roofs, concrete attachment for smooth concrete, per the Tie Down instructions.
  2. Verify the surface and load. Confirm the surface is approved, slope 1:12 or less, and the deck carries 643 lb plus the crew.
  3. Hoist and position. Lift by the hoist rings and roll the cart to the setback stated in the manual, square to the edge.
  4. Connect. Two fall arrest and one restraint worker on spikes, or one fall arrest and one restraint on concrete.
  5. Reposition. Keep restraint lengths shorter than the distance to the edge while rolling to the next position.

Inspection and Retirement

Inspect before each use, with a documented competent person inspection at least annually. Remove the system from service for any of the conditions below.

  • Spikes, concrete attachment and mechanism: bending, cracks, corrosion or binding.
  • Tie-off points and hoist rings: distortion, cracks, worn pins.
  • Frame and welds: cracks, bends or corrosion.
  • Tires and handles: damaged tires, bent axles.
  • Labels: illegible or missing markings.

Remove the system from service immediately after any fall arrest event and have it inspected by a competent person before it returns to use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the PX2 a hybrid?
It anchors two ways: steel penetrator spikes that engage a membrane or built-up roof deck under fall load, or a concrete attachment for smooth concrete decks. One cart covers both surfaces.
How many workers can tie off?
Three on spikes (two fall arrest, one restraint) or two on concrete (one fall arrest, one restraint), each up to 310 lb.
How does it compare to the PX3?
The PX3 is lighter (430 lb) and takes five workers but is not rated for concrete. The PX2 takes three workers and adds the concrete mode. Choose by crew size and surfaces.
Where is the manual?
The PX2 ships with the Tie Down instruction manual. We are adding the PX2 sell sheet, manual and Declaration of Conformity to this page; call us if you need them for a submittal today.
What slope and setback apply?
Penetrator family carts are used on slopes up to 1:12 with the setback stated in the manual for the surface. Follow the PX2 manual shipped with the cart.
Does it damage the roof?
Not in normal use. The spikes engage only under a fall load; after a fall the deck is penetrated at that spot and must be repaired. In concrete mode there is no penetration.
Can I finance the PX2?
Yes. Business financing through APPROVE takes about 60 seconds to apply and a sample monthly payment is shown above. Call us for delivered freight.

Not Sure Which Penetrator Fits?

Tell us the surfaces and how many workers tie off at once and we will point you to the PX2, PX3 or PX5, quote delivered freight and set up financing.
