Tie Down PX5 Original Penetrating Mobile Fall Protection Cart for 7 Workers
The PX5 Original is the big crew version of the Penetrator cart. At 517 lb it still hoists onto the roof in one lift, but it carries five fall arrest tie-offs and two restraint points so a full roofing crew works from a single anchorage. Five steel penetrator spikes engage the deck only when a fall loads the cart.
It rolls on four 500 lb flat-free tires (2,000 lb total) with a front brake and a 180 degree turning radius, and the first and fifth tie-offs are angled at 45 degrees to widen the work zone. Approved surfaces include TPO, EPDM, ISO, EPS, 18 to 22 gauge metal deck and plywood, with the number of fall arrest workers set by the surface. The PX5 Rescue Winch (72831) adds 100 ft of galvanized lifeline.

The finance payment shown is a sample, not an offer. Financing is provided through APPROVE and its lender network, subject to credit approval, at a 60 month term; your offered rate and term may differ. Financing is available on single items priced at 1,500 dollars and up, including smaller items bundled with the unit.

Who Needs This Product
The PX5 Original is for roofing, waterproofing and mechanical contractors who put five or more workers on a low slope roof at the same time and need one anchorage that moves with them. It replaces several smaller carts or a field of temporary anchors. Pair it with full body harnesses, connecting devices sized to the range of use, and a rescue plan; the PX5 Rescue Winch covers the rescue side.
Features
Seven workers, one cart
Five fall arrest connection points low on the cart and two fall restraint shackles on top. Check the surface table in the manual: TPO and ISO allow three in fall arrest, plywood and 18 to 22 gauge deck allow five.
Angled outer tie-offs
The first and fifth fall arrest points are set at 45 degrees so the outer workers get a wider safe work zone without moving the cart.
Heavy duty running gear
Four 500 lb flat-free tires, 2,000 lb total, with a front brake that holds the cart during tie-off and a 180 degree turning radius for tight rooftops.
Five steel penetrator spikes
The spikes drive into the deck under fall load and stop the cart. In normal use the membrane is untouched.
Six foot setback
On approved membranes the front guard plate sits 6 ft from the edge, 8 ft on concrete or clay, so more of the roof is workable.
Drop tested five times over
Tie Down's roof carts passed 310 lb, 6 ft free fall drop tests up to five consecutive drops, documented in the DoC inside the manual.
Workers in fall arrest depend on the surface. The PX5 allows five fall arrest workers on plywood and 18 to 22 gauge metal deck, but only three on TPO and ISO. Position the cart at least 6 ft from the leading edge (8 ft on concrete or clay), slope 1:12 or less, on an approved surface only. Confirm fall clearance with the calculator below.

Typical Applications
How to Use
Follow the Tie Down instruction manual. The sequence below is an overview only.
- Verify the surface and load. Confirm the roof type is approved, slope is 1:12 or less, and the deck carries the 517 lb cart plus crew.
- Hoist and position. Lift by the hoist rings, roll the front guard plate to at least 6 ft from the edge (8 ft on concrete or clay), square to the edge, and set the front brake.
- Set the spikes. Confirm the penetrator spikes are armed per the manual on a clean, dry area of deck.
- Connect by surface. Tie off up to five fall arrest workers on plywood or metal deck, three on TPO or ISO, plus two restraint workers on the top shackles.
- Reposition. Keep restraint lengths 5 ft shorter than the distance to the edge while rolling, then re-pin the handles and reset the brake.
Inspection and Retirement
Inspect before each use, with a documented competent person inspection at least annually. Remove the system from service for any of the conditions below.
- Penetrator spikes and mechanism: bending, cracks, corrosion or binding.
- Tie-off shackles and hoist rings: distortion, cracks, worn pins or missing retainers.
- Frame and welds: cracks, bends or corrosion from a fall or rough handling.
- Tires, brake and handles: damaged tires, a brake that will not hold, handles that will not pin.
- Labels and instruction plate: illegible or missing markings.
Remove the system from service immediately after any fall arrest event and have it inspected by a competent person before it returns to use.
